Sarah Ann Anderson Mobley - Mrs E.B. Mobley died at her home in Bedford, Iowa, March 16, 1916. The remains were sent to Hopkins [Missouri] Friday and the funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday morning, conducted by Rev D.W. Griffith. Interment was made in the Hopkins cemetery.

Miss Sarah A. Anderson was born near Heartsville, Ind., November 5, 1842. She was united in marriage to James Mobley in 1861. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs Elizabeth A. Anderson of Tryon, Okla. Mr Mobley died during the civil war near Vicksburg, La April 25, 1864, she was united in marriage to C.B. Mobley. To this union were born six sons and two daughters. Two sons died when young. Those surviving are William H. Mobley of Tryon, Okla, John W. Mobley and Isaac Mobley of Hopkins, Mo., David E. Mobley of Parnell, Mo., Mrs John Knowles of Hopkins and Mrs Will Mahan of Bedford.

Mrs Mobley was converted when a young girl and united with the Baptist church, of which she was a worthy member. For many years she was unable to attend religious services, having been sick for twenty-three years. Her last severe illness was of less than a week's duration.

Funeral services held for Vilas Morris

Funeral services were held Friday, July 27, 2 pm at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford for Vilas Morris Sr., 73. The Rev Ted DeHass officiated, and interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton. Mr Morris died July 24, 1984 in Clarinda, Ia.

Vilas Lester Morris was the son of Lester Morris and Judy Godsey Morris. He was born in Worth County, Missouri, July 10, 1911. He lived in and grew to maturity in Taylor County where he attended the public school and Athelstan Church. He was engaged in farming all his life. On May 13, 1931 he was united in marriage to Ella Ruth Salen at Troy, Ks., and they lived in rural Taylor County. To this union seven children were born: Vilas Jr., Jack, James, John, Judith, Joanne, Jillene.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Dot Faye), brother (Roy), and two sons (John and Jack).

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ella Ruth; sons, Vilas Jr., Cedar Falls, and James, Bedford; daughters, Judy Cox, Bedford, Joanna Scroggie, Clarinda, Jillene Casey, Centerville, sixteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and his sister, Pansy Meek, Blockton.

He was a member of the Mt Zion Church of Athelstan, Iowa. Vilas was a kind and considerate husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ella Ruth Morris - Funeral services for Ella Ruth Morris, 77, were held March 16 at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford. Rev Ted DeHass conducted the services and burial was at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton. Mrs Morris died March 14, 1990 at Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa.

Ella Ruth Salen Morris, daughter of Ina Goff Salen and Arthur Salen was born at Bedford, Iowa on February 23, 1913.

She lived in Taylor County and grew to maturity in Bedford, Iowa where she attended the public school and the Baptist Church. On May 13, 1931 she was united in marriage to Vilas Lester Morris at Troy, Ks and they lived in Taylor County near Blockton, Iowa.

To this union seven children were born: Vilas Jr., Jack Lee, James Richard, John David, Judith Arlene, Joanne Mae, and Jillene Rene.

She was a housewife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ina and Art Salen; husband, Villa [sic] Morris; children, Jack Lee and John David.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Vilas Jr. and wife, Alvira; James Richard and wife, Kathy; Judith Arlene and husband Don; Joanne Mae and husband, Gary; Jillene Rene and husband, Larry; her grandchildren: Jeff and Dan Morris, Stacy Gebhardt, Jim Morris, Jr., Theresa Thompson, Vilas Morris, Ilene McCoy, Rick Morris, Don, Dave, and Doug Cox, Gary Jr., LeaAnn, Mike and Steve Scroggie, Larry Jr., and Kim Casey; and 15 great grandchildren.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bedford for over 50 years.

She was a kind and considerate wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judy Morris - Funeral services for Mrs Lester (Judy Elizabeth) Morris, long time Taylor county resident, were held Monday, Aug 17, at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev Ward Campbell of Mt Ayr in charge. Mrs Morris died at the Armstrong Nursing Home in Bedford August 15, 1964, at the age of 78 years and eight months. Interment was at the Athelstan cemetery.

Judy Elizabeth Morris, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Andy Godsey was born Dec 15, 1885.

She lived most of her life in Taylor county, except two years which were spent in Kansas.

She joined Assembly of God church when a young girl to which she belonged until her death.

In 1906 she was united in marriage to Lester Morris who preceded her in death in 1951. To this union were born four children, Vilas and Roy Morris of Blockton, Pansylene Meek of Sheridan, Mo., and Dot Faye who preceded her in death.

She is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs Cora Morris of Bedford; and a host of relatives and friends.

Two grandchildren preceded her in death.

Though she spent her last years in suffering she still remained a faithful christian and devoted mother.

Roy Morris - Funeral services for Roy Andy Morris, 54, of Blockton, were held March 11 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford conducted by Rev George W. Swan. Mr Morris lost his life March 7 in a fire which destroyed his home. Masonic honors were conducted by Bethany Lodge No 320 of Blockton with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Roy Andy Morris, son of Lester Morris and Judy Godsey, was born in Taylor County September 22, 1917.

Roy lived in Ringgold County for some time, moving to the farm home northwest of Blockton, where he resided until his passing. He attended and graduated from the Blockton High School and was driver of the school bus for the past 12 years. Here he made many friends with the children. One boy said to me "What will we do now? Roy, the driver is dead".

He was a member of Bethany Lodge, No 320, Blockton, Iowa. He possessed the qualities of a good neighbor, a loyal and true friend to those who knew him, and loved his family, particularly the nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and one sister dying in infancy.

Those surviving are: a brother Vilas of Blockton, Iowa and a sister Mrs Pansylene Meeks of Sheridan, Mo. Twelve nephews and 5 nieces, neighbors and friends.

McCune, Malinda Ann Prickett Ray - Malinda Ann Prickett was born Jan 7th, 1837 in Bartholomew county, Ind., and died February 10th, 1916, age 79 years, 1 month and 23 days.

She was united in marriage to John Ray, Sept 12th, 1852. To this union ten children were born, five girls and five boys--Elizabeth and Myrtle died in infancy, Isaac P. died November 8th, 1888. Those living are as follows: Thomas J., of Ellston; Mrs Belle Fegins of Walleave, Oregon, Henry N. of Gravity, Mrs Nancy Easter of Laredo, Mo., John I. of Freemont, Nebr., J. Frank of Minature, Nebr., and Mrs Lucy Drennen of New Market. There are at present, 25 grand children and 49 great-grand children.

Her husband, John Ray, died Feb 26th, 1873. She was again married to Thomas D. McCune, Mar 4th, 1880, he having departed this life Mar 25th, 1907.

She united with the church of Christ in 1849 at the age of 12 years from which time until her death she had implicit faith in her Lord and Savior. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Sunday morning conducted by Rev W.H. Robb. Interment in Memory Cemetery.

McNutt, Norma Jean Graves Poznoff - Norma Jean McNutt, 66, of Gower, Mo, passed away, Monday, March 17 [2008], at KU Medical Center.

She was born on July 31, 1941 to Curtis and Margaret (Hill) Graves in Chatsworth, Ca. Norma grew up in Buttonwillow, Ca, where she graduated from Shafer High School.

In 1958, Norma was united in marriage to Glen Poznoff. From this marriage two children, Cassandra Elaine and Kevin Mitchell were born. In April 1967 she was united in marriage to Gary Allen McNutt. From this marriage two children, Marnie Marie and Lori Helene were born. In 1971 Gary and Norma moved from California to Bedford, Ia. In 1985 they moved to the Kansas City area where they resided for over 20 years.

Norma worked in retail, was a volunteer coordinator for various nursing homes and was also an administrative assistant.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Plattsburg, Norma loved music, gardening and visiting with friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary McNutt in 2003 and her son, Kevin Poznoff in 2006.

She is survived by three daughters, Cassie Spencer, Bedford, Ia, Marnie Mitchell and husband Darrin, Plattsburg, Mo, and Lori Henrichs and husband, Joel, Plattsburg, Mo, seven grandchildren, April and husband Dave, Gary and wife, Kyla, Kelsey Brianna, Courtney, Isaac and Nathanael, great-granddaughter, Hailey and two great grandchildren on the way, sister, Marie Hair, Bakersfield, Ca, and brother, Curtis Graves and wife, Pat, Paicines, Ca, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 29th at the First Baptist Church, Plattsburg, Mo. Arrangements by Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower.

 

Moffet, Carl Hans - Carl Hans Moffett, 46, died Thursday evening, Nov. 3 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. while undergoing cardiac by-pass surgery.
Carl was married to Catherine Mellott of Bedford in 1968.  
Surviving are his wife Catherine, children Tammy and Nick; parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moffet of Rogers, Ark. and brother Barry Sherman of Tampa, FJa.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Nov. 12 in the rose garden at Unity Village, Kansas City, Mo.

Hold Last Rites In Lenox For Victor Michal
Funeral services for Victor Maximillian Michal, 81, of Lenox, formerly of Blockton, were
held May 16 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Blase Schumacher officiating.


Mr. Michal died May 13. 1977 in Rosary Hospital in Corning where he had been a patient
for four days. Interment was in North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox.


Victor Maximillian Michal, the son of John and Frances Walters Michal, was born on
July 26, 1895 in Omaha, Nebraska.


On October 31, 1927 Victor was married with Bernice Champion at Omaha, Nebraska.
Five children were born to bless this union.


Victor and Bernice made their home in Omaha until 1940 when they moved to a farm near Blockton. They farmed here until 1970 when they moved to Lenox.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one son in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Lenox; three sons: Victor Jack Michal of Mt Gilead, Ohio; Robert C. Michal of Torrence, Calif and Dennis E. Michal of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs Dean (Mary Ann) Weese of Lenox; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Stevens, of San Jose, Calif. and other relatives and many friends.

Victor was a member of the St Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox.

McFadden, Ben, Jr - Funeral services for Benjamin Harvey McFadden, Jr., 48, of Bedford, were held September 24 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home with Rev James Dale officiating. Mr McFadden died September 21, 1981 in Clarinda Municipal Hospital. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Benjamin Harvey McFadden, Jr., son of Benjamin H. and Laura Jones McFadden, was born in San Diego, California April 7, 1933. He lived in San Diego and grew to maturity in Modesto, Calif where he attended the public school.

On November 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Velva R. McNutt in Modesto and they lived there until they moved to Bedford in 1974.

To this union five children were born: Patricia Ann, Timothy Wayne, Mary Lynn, William Thomas and Lorna Sean, all of Bedford.

Mr McFadden was self-employed. He was a member of the United States Army and Navy.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Velva Ruth; daughters: Pat (Mrs J.) Lischer, Mary (Mrs Alan) Pitman and Lorna McFadden; sons: Tim McFadden and Bill McFadden, all of Bedford; grandson, Matthew Lischer; mother, Laura McFadden, Calif; sisters: Nadine (Mrs Ken) Mills, and Lorine (Mrs Guy) Smith, California.

He was a kind and considerate son, husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Morris, Ida Jannetta O'Dell - Ida Jannetta O'Dell, sixth child of Elmer and Martha Damewood O'Dell, was born March 20, 1904 in Mason Township, Taylor County, Iowa.

She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood on the family farm along with her five brothers, one sister and her double cousin.

She began her career as a health care worker at the Glenwood State School where she met Ora Morris. They were married January 31, 1949 at Des Moines, Iowa.

They eventually established their home in Bedford where they owned and operated a nursing home. "Morris" died in May 1954 and Ida sold her nursing home a few years later. She continued her work as a licensed practical nurse until retiring in 1964. In later years, she continued to care for her brother, Vern, until his death in 1976. She, along with her beloved sister, Alta, has been a resident of Bedford Manor for over a year.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Russell, Al, Vern and Ralph and her nephew, Don O'Dell. She is survived by her sister, Alta Parsons of Bedford Manor; her brother, Delbert O'Dell of Council Bluffs; nephews Gerald of Lebanon, Mo., Bill of Bedford, and Allen of Malvern; her niece, Dolores Allen of Daytona Beach, Fla; her double cousin, Ruth Scalf of New Market; other relatives and friends.

Her family keenly feels that a part of their lives is gone for this day, but faith sustains and with thankful hearts remember Ecclesiastics 3:14 -- "I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has so worked that men should fear Him."

Funeral services for Ida Janetta Morris were held Friday, July 16, 1993 at Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev Steve Peters officiating. Burial was at Memory Cemetery, New Market. Iowa.

FLORENCE MAE MORRIS PASSES AWAY

Florence May, daughter of B.F. and E. Reeder, and wife of Walter Morris, was born in Nodaway county, Missouri, March 24, 1888; and died at her home two and one half miles north of Platteville, Iowa, April 14, 1907, aged 21 years, 21 days. She was of a family of eight children, of which she was the first to die, leaving father, mother, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, a loving husband a little daughter: a little son waits to greet her on the other shore, Mae was sick three days. She died of blood poisoning. She was well respected by a large circle of friends, those attending the funeral attested the degree of respect they had for her and her relatives.

After a sermon by Rev Knowles of Blockton at the Baptist church at Athelstan Tuesday afternoon, in which he pointed the living to the right path, the remains were conveyed to the Athelstan cemetery where they were consigned to the grave to await the final resurrection day. The pall bears were: L.F. Gaule, T.E. Gaule, Willie Gaule, George Scroggie, Burrel Scroggie, Fred Templeton. The circle is broken and a link in the chain is gone forever. The deepest sympathy of the people of Gay and Jackson townships goes out to the bereaved ones in this time of sorrow.

The relatives of deceased extend there heartfelt thanks to all friends for kindness shown them in there sad bereavement, thanking one and all for the beautiful flowers, and those who decorated the grave so beautifully thus hiding from view the cold earth into which the body of our loved one was lowered. They will ever hold these acts in fond rememberance.

Macovets, Mabel Cary - MOTHER OF TWINS DIES IN DAKOTA - Dallas Twp. (Special) - Mr and Mrs John Cary went to Roswell, S.Dak, October 21, to visit their daughter, Mabel Macovets, and other relatives. On October 24, twin daughters were born to their daughter, Mrs A. Macovets. On October 25 Mrs Macovets passed away in a hospital at Mitchell, S.Dak, and her funeral was held in roswell October 27.

She is vurvived by her husband and daughter Barbara and twin daughters; her parents, Mr and Mrs John Car; a brother Wayne Cary; a grandmother, Mrs Emma Watson, and many other realtives in South Dakota and Dallas twp. CLARINDA HERALD-JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Oct 30, 1939

Funeral services for Curtis Ora Melvin, 88, of New Market, were held Nov. 11, 1984 at the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford with Carl Cummings officiating.
Mr. Melvin died Nov. 6, 1984 at his home and the body was cremated.
He was born Feb. 26, 1896 at Siam, the son of William and Lucinda Ellen Daughtery Melvin. He lived in Taylor County and attended school in Bedford and was a member of the Christian Church. On Aug. 21, 1915, he was married to Wilma Stewart and they lived on farms in the Bedford area for several years.
He was also employed at lumber yards in Council Bluffs, operated a dry cleaning business in Villisca, worked for the Iowa State Highway Department at Bedford and later was employed at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; a son, Stuart; three brothers, Ira, Roy and W. Fred; a sister, Chloe and his second wife, Mary Keith Melvin.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Mildred) Barker of Lenox; two grandchildren; two step daughters, Margaret Geer and Letha Manley and other relatives.
He was a member of the
Christian Church and the Masonic
