[101] Clyde Long, 84, of Clarinda, died Aug 16, 1985 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs where he had been for the previous two days. He was born Feb 26, 1901 in Taylor County, the son of Perry E. and Bertha O. Clark Long. He was married to May Belle Howell on April 26, 1933. They spent most of their married life on a farm in the New Market and Guss area. She preceded him in death on Feb 22, 1981. He was a member of the New Market Lodge #582 IOOF, having joined on Oct 28, 1922 at the age of 21. He served as Noble Grand in 1927. He was also a member of the Rebekahs. Survivors include a brother, Clarence Lee Long of Clarinda and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held this Monday at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with burial in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Guss.
[102] HAZEL MAXINE LeGORE Hazel Maxine LeGore, age 76, of Blockton, Iowa died on October 23, 2001 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born January 25, 1925, in Truro, Iowa, the daughter of Earl A. and Fossie Duncan Henson. Hazel graduated from the Blockton High School with the class of 1942. She then moved to Des Moines where she secured a job with the State Department of Welfare and worked there for nine years. On September 9, 1944, Hazel was united in marriage to Clark I. LeGore. Three daughters and one son were born to this union. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 1994. In 1951 she and Clark moved to Waterloo and few years later moved to Cedar Falls where they bought a small printing press and started printing as a sideline. In I960 they purchased the College Hill Print Shop which published a weekly shopper. The name was changed later to Type House of Iowa, Inc., which specialized in typesetting and lithography for printing. They continued in this business until they retired in 1985 at which time they moved to Blockton. The business is presently managed by daughter, Deborah and son, David. Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Lester Henson. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Cathy Pargo of Waterloo, Deborah and husband, Jim Bunger of Cedar Falls, and Renee and husband, Steve Huey of Andover, MN and son, David LeGore and wife, Mary of Cedar Falls along with grandchildren Erica and Olivia Bunger and Nicole LeGore. [103] LeGore, Clark Irwin Clark Irwin LeGore, age 69, of Blockton, Iowa died August 9, 1995 at 8:00 a.m. in his home. Clark was born January 28, 1926 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Roy H. and Beulah (Irwin) LeGore. He married Hazel Henson in Des Moines, Iowa on September 9, 1944. Clark and Hazel celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1994. Four children were born to Clark and Hazel: Cathy, Deborah, David and Renee. Clark spent his early years in various Iowa communities. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School. He was employed by Dictaphone Corp. for 15 years. The LeGores moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1951 as Clark was transferred to the northwest area as branch manager. In 1954, they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, bought a small press and started printing as a sideline. Clark left his job with Dictaphone Corp to manage the Hudson Herald Weekly newspaper for two years. In 1960, he purchased the College Hill Print Shop in Cedar Falls, which published a weekly shopper, the Cedar Bulletin, the name later changed to Type House of Iowa, Inc. which specialized in typesetting and lithography for prepress. He continued this business until his retirement. The business is presently managed by daughter, Deborah, and son, David. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Beulah. Those left to survive Clark are: his wife, Hazel, Blockton, Iowa; his children, Cathy Ann Pargo, Mitchellville, Iowa, Deborah Bunger, Cedar Falls, Iowa, David LeGore, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Renee Huey, Andover, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Erica and Olivia Bunger and Nicole LeGore; and two sisters, Letha McChurch and Lois McPherren, both of Des Moines, Iowa. Services were held on Saturday, August 12th at the Christian Church in Blockton, Iowa with Rev. Scott Marcum officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton, Iowa. [104] Leonard, Dean - Funeral services were held November 3, 1988 for Dean Leonard, 52, of 4724 Goodnight, Amarillo, Tx., who died October 29, 1988 of a heart attack in Las Vegas, N.M. He was born November 21, 1935 at Bedford, Iowa, the son of Paul and Irene Cobb Leonard. He was married to LaDonna Heller in 1956 at Gravity, la. He had lived in Amarillo since 1965. He was a truck driver and a member of the Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, LaDonna; three sons, Richard of Houston, Robert and wife Judy, and Roger and wife Rose, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; three grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Leonard and a sister Martha McNees of Clarinda. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward in 1986. Memorials were to El Porvenir Christian Camp through Paramount Terrace Christian Church, 4000 Mays Street, Amarillo, Tx. [105] Long, Richard Lee - Funeral services for Richard Lee Long were held Thursday, November 3, 1988 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Rev. Don Fisher and Rev. Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was at North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, la. Richard Lee Long, son of Rayfield and Alice Gray Long, was born November 5, 1941, at Northboro, la. He entered into rest on October 31, 1988, at the age of 46 years, 11 months and 26 days. #H-\b&£ When a small boy, his family moved to Sharpsburg. He attended the Sharpsburg Elementary and Lenox High School. In 1960 Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in which he served until March of 1964. On June 26, 1968 he was united in marriage to Christena Mae Schneider at Maryville, Mo. To this union two children were born: Kimberly Sue and Daren Rae. Rich loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loyal supporter of the Lenox Community School activities, with wrestling and football being his personal favorites. Richard had been a member of the Taylor County Sheriffs Posse Drill Team led by former Sheriff Leonard Ratliff for a number of years. They traveled many miles to perform at horse shows, rodeos, and ride in parades. He was also a member of the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club, the American Legion, the Saddle Club, the American, the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department and had served as mayor of Sharpsburg since 1983. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Those surviving to honor his memory are his wife Christena; his children, Kimberly of Ames, and Daren at home; his mother, Alice of Lenox; brothers Leonard and wife Sarah Council Bluffs, Raymond and wife Lee of Lincoln, Ne., Ira and wife Irene of Sharpsburg; sisters Zelma and husband Walter Cochran of Elmgreen, Co., Shirley and husband Frank of Osceola, sister-in-law Phyllis Knox of Des Moines, and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend. He took pride in his children and everything they werea part of. Richard always had time to give a helping hand to others in any way he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May God give his comfort and strength to all who mourn. [106] Larson, Naomi Ruth Smith - Funeral services for Naomi Larson, (wife of Dean 'Jinx' Larson) age 81 of Bedford, who died Sunday, February 2, 2003 were held Wednesday, February 5,2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Pastor Ted DeHass officiating. Interment was held at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be given in Naomi's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford. Naomi Ruth Larson was bom August 3, 1921, in rural Hopkins, Missouri the daughter of Leslie Evans Smith and Aura Mae Phillips Smith. Naomi grew up in the Hopkins area attending rural schools. After school, Naomi worked in various homes taking care of housework and other chores. She and her sister Mabel moved to Bedford where they both worked for Cudahy's Packing Company in the butter room. She met Dean 'Jinx' Larson and the couple was united in marriage on January 20, 1949 in Clarinda, Iowa. After their marriage the couple and their family lived on various farms around Taylor County, eventually moving into Bedford in 1962. Naomi was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, canning and was a wonderful cook, well known for her caramel dumplings. As was their custom for many years, Naomi would fill out the grocery list and Dean would head off to the store, always being sure nothing went to waste. At the Larson lousehold, there were never any leftovers! Left to cherish Naomi's memory are her husband, William Dean Larson of Bedford; ten children, Richard Larson of Bedford; Martha Larson of Bedford; Karen Riedel and husband Ron of Siam; Jean Waterbury of Sioux City; Linda Onumbu and husband John of Omaha, Nebraska; Janice Fleharty and husband Rod of Corning; Tom Larson of Bedford; Ann Snyder and husband Terry of Gravity; Robert Larson of Bedford; and Diana Christie and husband Randy of Bedford; fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Larson, Gary Eugene - Funeral services for Gary Larson, age 66, of New Market, Iowa, who entered into peace Monday, October 20, 2009 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska were held Friday, October 23, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Russ Clark officiating. He was born April 8, 1943, in Taylor County, Iowa, the eighth child of Herby and Lilly (Johnson) Larson. He grew up attending country schools around New Market, graduating from New Market High School in 1962. He attended IWCC in Clarinda, graduating from the Mech Tech program in 1964. Gary then worked at Lincoln, Nebraska for a short time before being drafted into the army. He served his country from 1965-1967. Gary held several jobs through the years, working on the power plant at Brownville, Nebraska, a cement laborer in Omaha, a carpenter with Bill Horton for several years. Gary retired as a machinist from NSK/AKS on January 1, 2009. Gary was united in marriage to Teresa L. Scott on August 15, 1987, in New Market, Iowa. They lived east of New Market their entire married life in the house Gary built. He has done several projects on that house, including adding on a room and moving the fireplace from one room to another (after Teri asked if this could be done). He enjoyed woodworking, making Teri a beautiful sewing room for her quilting, grandfather clock and any other projects family or friends asked for. Gary and Teri enjoyed traveling, having been to Canada, Europe, Alaska and a special trip to Australia and New Zealand and making several trips to Branson and enjoying the shows. They also enjoyed going to Fillmore, Missouri to the Bluegrass Festival with good friends Max and Grace Derry. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Brad Larson and Dallas Larson; and sister, Ruby Wilson; brother-in-law, Jerry Wilson and sisters-in-law, Retha Larson and Sarah Larson Billings. Funeral services for Lee Long, 81, of Clarinda will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with Loren Daly and Rev John Clark officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm on Tuesday. Mr Long died March 16, 1986 during the night at his home after a long illness. He was born July 8, 1904, in Taylor County, the son of Perry C. and Bertha D. (Clark) Long. On June 23, 1926 he married Minnie Wirth, who preceded him in death on May 12, 1974. On Jan 5, 1975 he married Bernice Farrell, who survives. Mr Long lived on a farm north of New Market before moving to Clarinda. Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by four children, Herald Long, Kersey, Co., Donald Long, Nebraska City, Ne., Mrs Harold (Verla) Kirsch, Clarinda and Mrs Jerry (Doris) Crow, Clarinda. Step-children are Darwin Farrell, Shenandoah, Ia, and Mrs Donald (Dorla Maye) Long, Nebraska City, Ne. There are 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Minnie; one grandson, Willie; two brothers and three sisters. Burial will be in Memory Cemetery near New Market. Miss Long was born Jan 8, 1899 near Guss, daughter of Perry and Bertha Clark Long. She lived with her parents until her mother died then stayed with her brothers and sisters until she entered the Taylor County Care Facility. From there she went to the Lenox Care Center in 1975, where she died Thurs., Jan 28. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George and two sisters, Maude Sanders and Mae Burright. Lischer, Merrill - Memorial services for Merrill Lischer, age 79 of Bedford, who died Monday, July 24,2000, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri were held Friday, July 28, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor Dennis Shepherd officiating. Interment of ashes was held in the Forest Grove Cemetery, southeast of Bedford. Merrill Lischer was born January 2, 1921 in Griswold, Iowa, the son of Fred Lischer and Blanche L. McCaskey Lischer. In 1927 he moved to Red Oak where he graduated from high school in 1938. He also attended two years of junior college in Red Oak. He worked in San Diego, CA. until 1942 when he joined the Navy Air Corp for a short time. He then became a civilian Pilot Instructor before joining the Army Air Corp, entering their Cadet Training Program. Merrill trained as a Fighter Pilot but never saw action overseas due to the end of World War II. Merrill met Floy in 1946 while he was working as an insurance adjuster in Tallahassee, Florida. Merrill and Floy were married in 1947. The couple remained in Florida until Merrill's graduation from the University of Florida with a degree in Animal Science. In 1951 Merrill and Floy moved to the Bedford area purchasing the 80-acre farm from Charlie Mason and built their home. This acreage was across the road from his father's land. Merrill and Floy later purchased 120 acres from Ernie Jeffers in 1959, which was adjacent to his father's land on the north. Merrill and Floy raised their three children, Deborah, Gary, and J. Fred on this farm. The couple was involved in general farming with a total acreage of 440 acres with emphasis on livestock and poultry. Both were active in Farm Bureau, the United Methodist Church, 4-H and the Taylor County Extension. After farming for seventeen years, Merrill continued his education at Iowa State University where he obtained his teaching degree in vocational agriculture at the age of 46. He then taught Vocational Agriculture for twelve years at New Market High School. He was also employed by the Moorman Feed Manufacturing Company as a local representative, retiring in 1989, continuing to help J. Fred on the family farm. Merrill is survived by his loving wife, Floy of Bedford; a daughter, Deborah Mullenioux and husband Mark of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sons, Gary Lischer and wife Ty and J. Fred Lischer and wife Patty, both of Bedford; a brother, Raymond Lischer and wife Shirley of Creston; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Luellen, Lola S. Jones - Funeral services for Lola S. Luellen, 87, of Clarinda will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Mrs Luellen died Sunday afternoon at the Bethesda Care Center. Her home was at 518 E. Washington before going to the rest home. She was born May 20, 1894 at New Market, a daughter of Issac and Mary Ann McCullough Jones. She was married to Clifford Luellen, who preceded her in death in 1942. Survivors include a son, Arlyn Luellen of Omaha, Ne, and three grandchildren. Mrs Clara Baker of Gravity is a sister. Sisters-in-law are Letta Jones of Clarinda, Sylvia Combs of New Market and Esther Jones of Storm Lake. Brothers-in-law are Charley Luellen of Fairfax, Oklahoma, and Wayne Luellen of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Luellen, Keith - Funeral services were Monday at 2:00 pm at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Keith Luellen passed away Friday at the V.A. Hospital in Omaha, Ne. after a short illness. Keith Luellen was born in New Market, Ia., April 13, 1914, to Clifford E. Luellen and Lola S. [Jones] Luellen. Mr. Luellen served in the Army During World War II, after his discharge he lived in Troy, Kansas, and St Joseph, Missouri. During his life he worked for R.E.A. as a lineman for 20 years, until 1968 when he became a baker for Wonder Bread in St Joseph, Mo., where he worked for five years. At that time he moved to Clarinda, Ia. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. of St Joseph, Mo. Keith is survived by his mother Lola S. Longfellow, Erma Irene Scott - Funeral service for Erma Irene Longfellow was held Wednesday, Sept 9, 1992 at Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev Carl Cummings and Rev Steve Peters officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery. Erma Irene Scott Longfellow, daughter of Edward Ashley Scott and Beulah Mann Scott was born at Coleridge in Cedar County, Neb. October 1, 1907 and departed this life September 6, 1992 at her home in Bedford, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 11 months and five days. When she was about 11 years old her family moved to Bedford where her father was associated with the Pieringer Jewelry Store as watchmaker. Here she grew to maturity where she attended the Bedford Public School and the Baptist and later the Methodist Church. On July 12, 1926 she was united in marriage to Harry Nelson Longfellow at Creston, Iowa and they lived on the Science Ridge farm for 46 years and then moved to Bedford in 1972 where they have continued to reside. To this union nine children were born: Vivian, Charles, Doris, Marvin, Lois, Arlene, Harry Jr., Wilma and Alan. Erma was a devoted wife and mother and assisted her husband Harry in the farm operation until retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Beulah Scott. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years of the home; their children Vivian and her husband Virgil Beemer of Bedford; Charles and his wife Betty of Bedford; Doris and her husband Dean Gillette of Bedford; Marvin Longfellow of Walhalla, SC; Lois and her husband James Rogers of Walhalla, SC; Arlene and her husband Deke Mecham of Austin, Texas; Harry Jr and wife Dot of Walhalla, SC; Wilma and her husband Doug Jackson of Bedford; and Alan and his wife Eloise of Bedford, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In 1960, he purchased the College Hill Print Shop in Cedar Falls, which published a weekly shopper, the Cedar Bulletin, the name later changed to Type House of Iowa, Inc. which specialized in typesetting and lithography for prepress. He continued this business until his retirement. The business is presently managed by daughter, Deborah, and son, David.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Beulah.
Those left to survive Clark are: his wife, Hazel, Blockton, Iowa; his children, Cathy Ann Pargo, Mitchellville, Iowa, Deborah Bunger, Cedar Falls, Iowa, David LeGore, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Renee Huey, Andover, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Erica and Olivia Bunger and Nicole LeGore;
and two sisters, Letha McChurch and Lois McPherren, both of Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held November 3, 1988 for Dean Leonard, 52, of 4724 Goodnight, Amarillo, Tx., who died October 29, 1988 of a heart attack in Las Vegas, N.M.
He was born November 21, 1935 at Bedford, Iowa, the son of Paul and Irene Cobb Leonard. He was married to LaDonna Heller in 1956 at Gravity, la. He had lived in Amarillo since 1965. He was a truck driver and a member of the Paramount Terrace Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, LaDonna; three sons, Richard of Houston, Robert and wife Judy, and Roger and wife Rose, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; three grandchildren; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Leonard and a sister Martha McNees of Clarinda. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward in 1986.
Memorials were to El Porvenir Christian Camp through Paramount Terrace Christian Church, 4000 Mays Street, Amarillo, Tx. Burial was in Llano Cemetery, Amarillo, Tx.

Funeral services for Richard Lee Long were held Thursday, November 3, 1988 at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox with Rev. Don Fisher and Rev. Carl Cummings officiating. Burial was at North Fairview Cemetery, Lenox, la.
Richard Lee Long, son of Rayfield and Alice Gray Long,
was born November 5, 1941, at Northboro, la. He entered into rest on October 31, 1988, at the age of 46 years, 11 months and 26 days. #H-\b&£
When a small boy, his family moved to Sharpsburg. He attended the Sharpsburg Elementary and Lenox High School. In 1960 Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy in which he served until March of 1964.
On June 26, 1968 he was united in marriage to Christena Mae Schneider at Maryville, Mo. To this union two children were born: Kimberly Sue and Daren Rae.
Rich loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loyal supporter of the Lenox Community School activities, with wrestling and football being his personal favorites.
Richard had been a member of the Taylor County Sheriffs Posse Drill Team led by former Sheriff Leonard Ratliff for a number of years. They traveled many miles to perform at horse shows, rodeos, and ride in parades. He was also a member of the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club, the American Legion, the Saddle Club, the American, the Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Department and had served as mayor of Sharpsburg since 1983.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
Those surviving to honor his memory are his wife Christena; his children, Kimberly of Ames, and Daren at home; his mother, Alice of Lenox; brothers Leonard and wife Sarah Council Bluffs, Raymond and wife Lee of Lincoln, Ne., Ira and wife Irene of Sharpsburg; sisters Zelma and husband Walter Cochran of Elmgreen, Co., Shirley and husband Frank of Osceola, sister-in-law Phyllis Knox of Des Moines, and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend. He took pride in his children and everything they werea part of. Richard always had time to give a helping hand to others in any way he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Naomi Larson, (wife of Dean 'Jinx' Larson) age 81 of Bedford, who died Sunday, February 2, 2003 were held Wednesday, February 5,2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home with Pastor Ted DeHass officiating. Interment was held at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be given in Naomi's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Naomi Ruth Larson was bom August 3, 1921, in rural Hopkins, Missouri the daughter of Leslie Evans Smith and Aura Mae Phillips Smith. Naomi grew up in the Hopkins area attending rural schools. After school, Naomi worked in various homes taking care of housework and other chores. She and her sister Mabel moved to Bedford where they both worked for Cudahy's Packing Company in the butter room. She met Dean 'Jinx' Larson and the couple was united in marriage on January 20, 1949 in Clarinda, Iowa. After their marriage the couple and their family lived on various farms around Taylor County, eventually moving into Bedford in 1962.
Naomi was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, canning and was a wonderful cook, well known for her caramel dumplings. As was their custom for many years, Naomi would fill out the grocery list and Dean would head off to the store, always being sure nothing went to waste. At the Larson lousehold, there were never any leftovers!
Left to cherish Naomi's memory are her husband, William Dean Larson of Bedford;

Gary Eugene Larson, 66, of New Market, Iowa died October 20, 2009, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born April 8, 1943, in Taylor County, Iowa, the eighth child of Herby and Lilly (Johnson) Larson. He grew up attending country schools around New Market, graduating from New Market High School in 1962. He attended IWCC in Clarinda, graduating from the Mech Tech program in 1964. Gary then worked at Lincoln, Nebraska for a short time before being drafted into the army. He served his country from 1965-1967. Gary held several jobs through the years, working on the power plant at Brownville, Nebraska, a cement laborer in Omaha, a carpenter with Bill Horton for several years. Gary retired as a machinist from NSK/AKS on January 1, 2009.

Gary was united in marriage to Teresa L. Scott on August 15, 1987, in New Market, Iowa. They lived east of New Market their entire married life in the house Gary built. He has done several projects on that house, including adding on a room and moving the fireplace from one room to another (after Teri asked if this could be done). He enjoyed woodworking, making Teri a beautiful sewing room for her quilting, grandfather clock and any other projects family or friends asked for.

Gary and Teri enjoyed traveling, having been to Canada, Europe, Alaska and a special trip to Australia and New Zealand and making several trips to Branson and enjoying the shows. They also enjoyed going to Fillmore, Missouri to the Bluegrass Festival with good friends Max and Grace Derry.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Brad Larson and Dallas Larson; and sister, Ruby Wilson; brother-in-law, Jerry Wilson and sisters-in-law, Retha Larson and Sarah Larson Billings.

Wednesday services for Lee Long

Funeral services for Lee Long, 81, of Clarinda will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, with Loren Daly and Rev John Clark officiating.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 pm on Tuesday.

Mr Long died March 16, 1986 during the night at his home after a long illness.

He was born July 8, 1904, in Taylor County, the son of Perry C. and Bertha D. (Clark) Long.

On June 23, 1926 he married Minnie Wirth, who preceded him in death on May 12, 1974. On Jan 5, 1975 he married Bernice Farrell, who survives.

Mr Long lived on a farm north of New Market before moving to Clarinda.

Besides his wife of the home, he is survived by four children, Herald Long, Kersey, Co., Donald Long, Nebraska City, Ne., Mrs Harold (Verla) Kirsch, Clarinda and Mrs Jerry (Doris) Crow, Clarinda. Step-children are Darwin Farrell, Shenandoah, Ia, and Mrs Donald (Dorla Maye) Long, Nebraska City, Ne. There are 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Minnie; one grandson, Willie; two brothers and three sisters.

Burial will be in Memory Cemetery near New Market.

Services were held Sat., Jan 30 for Grace Long, 83, at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, officiated by Loren Daley and Rev John Clark. Interment was in the Guss Cemetery.

Miss Long was born Jan 8, 1899 near Guss, daughter of Perry and Bertha Clark Long. She lived with her parents until her mother died then stayed with her brothers and sisters until she entered the Taylor County Care Facility. From there she went to the Lenox Care Center in 1975, where she died Thurs., Jan 28.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother George and two sisters, Maude Sanders and Mae Burright.

She is survived by two brothers: Clyde Long and Lee Long; sister-in-law Hope Long of Council Bluffs; and brother-in-law, Donald Burright of Clarinda.

Lischer, Merrill - Memorial services for Merrill Lischer, age 79 of Bedford, who died Monday, July 24,2000, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri were held Friday, July 28, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bedford with Pastor Dennis Shepherd officiating. Interment of
ashes was held in the Forest Grove Cemetery, southeast of Bedford.

Merrill Lischer was born January 2, 1921 in Griswold, Iowa, the son of Fred Lischer and Blanche L. McCaskey Lischer. In 1927 he moved to Red Oak where he graduated from high school in
1938. He also attended two years of junior college in Red Oak. He worked in San Diego, CA. until
1942 when he joined the Navy Air Corp for a short time. He then became a civilian Pilot Instructor
before joining the Army Air Corp, entering their Cadet Training Program.
Merrill trained as a Fighter Pilot but never saw action overseas due to the end of World War II. Merrill met Floy in 1946 while he was working as an insurance adjuster in Tallahassee, Florida.

Merrill and Floy were married in 1947. The couple remained in Florida until Merrill's
graduation from the University of Florida with a degree in Animal Science. In 1951 Merrill and Floy
moved to the Bedford area purchasing the 80-acre farm from Charlie Mason and built their
home. This acreage was across the road from his father's land. Merrill and Floy later purchased
120 acres from Ernie Jeffers in 1959, which was adjacent to his father's land on the north. Merrill
and Floy raised their three children, Deborah, Gary, and J. Fred on this farm. The couple was involved
in general farming with a total acreage of 440 acres with emphasis on livestock and poultry.

Both were active in Farm Bureau, the United Methodist Church, 4-H and the Taylor County Extension. After farming for seventeen years, Merrill continued his education at Iowa State University where he obtained his teaching degree in vocational agriculture at the age of 46. He then taught Vocational Agriculture for twelve years at New Market High School. He was also employed by the Moorman Feed Manufacturing Company as a local representative, retiring in 1989, continuing to help J. Fred on the family farm.

Merrill is survived by his loving wife, Floy of Bedford; a daughter, Deborah Mullenioux and husband Mark of Blue Springs, Missouri; two sons, Gary Lischer and wife Ty and J. Fred Lischer and wife Patty, both of
Bedford; a brother, Raymond Lischer and wife Shirley of Creston; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding Merrill in death are his parents, Fred and Blanche and two brothers, Dale and Warren.

Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Luellen, Lola S. Jones - Funeral services for Lola S. Luellen, 87, of Clarinda will be at 1:30 pm Wednesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home.

Mrs Luellen died Sunday afternoon at the Bethesda Care Center. Her home was at 518 E. Washington before going to the rest home.

She was born May 20, 1894 at New Market, a daughter of Issac and Mary Ann McCullough Jones. She was married to Clifford Luellen, who preceded her in death in 1942.

Survivors include a son, Arlyn Luellen of Omaha, Ne, and three grandchildren. Mrs Clara Baker of Gravity is a sister. Sisters-in-law are Letta Jones of Clarinda, Sylvia Combs of New Market and Esther Jones of Storm Lake. Brothers-in-law are Charley Luellen of Fairfax, Oklahoma, and Wayne Luellen of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 pm Tuesday.

Burial will be in Memory Cemetery at New Market.

Luellen, Keith - Funeral services were Monday at 2:00 pm at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Keith Luellen passed away Friday at the V.A. Hospital in Omaha, Ne. after a short illness.

Keith Luellen was born in New Market, Ia., April 13, 1914, to Clifford E. Luellen and Lola S. [Jones] Luellen. Mr. Luellen served in the Army During World War II, after his discharge he lived in Troy, Kansas, and St Joseph, Missouri. During his life he worked for R.E.A. as a lineman for 20 years, until 1968 when he became a baker for Wonder Bread in St Joseph, Mo., where he worked for five years. At that time he moved to Clarinda, Ia. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. of St Joseph, Mo.

Keith is survived by his mother Lola S. Luellen of 210 N. 1st in Clarinda, one brother Arlyn Luellen of Omaha, Ne., three nieces and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Longfellow, Erma Irene Scott - Funeral service for Erma Irene Longfellow was held Wednesday, Sept 9, 1992 at Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in Bedford with Rev Carl Cummings and Rev Steve Peters officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery.

Erma Irene Scott Longfellow, daughter of Edward Ashley Scott and Beulah Mann Scott was born at Coleridge in Cedar County, Neb. October 1, 1907 and departed this life September 6, 1992 at her home in Bedford, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 11 months and five days.

When she was about 11 years old her family moved to Bedford where her father was associated with the Pieringer Jewelry Store as watchmaker. Here she grew to maturity where she attended the Bedford Public School and the Baptist and later the Methodist Church.

On July 12, 1926 she was united in marriage to Harry Nelson Longfellow at Creston, Iowa and they lived on the Science Ridge farm for 46 years and then moved to Bedford in 1972 where they have continued to reside.

To this union nine children were born: Vivian, Charles, Doris, Marvin, Lois, Arlene, Harry Jr., Wilma and Alan.

Erma was a devoted wife and mother and assisted her husband Harry in the farm operation until retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Beulah Scott.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 66 years of the home; their children Vivian and her husband Virgil Beemer of Bedford; Charles and his wife Betty of Bedford; Doris and her husband Dean Gillette of Bedford; Marvin Longfellow of Walhalla, SC; Lois and her husband James Rogers of Walhalla, SC; Arlene and her husband Deke Mecham of Austin, Texas; Harry Jr and wife Dot of Walhalla, SC; Wilma and her husband Doug Jackson of Bedford; and Alan and his wife Eloise of Bedford, Iowa; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church; Methodist Circle, the U.K. Club and for several years she served as Treasurer of the Science Ridge School.

Her family and friends will remember her as a kind and considerate loved one and she will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.
