Howes, Benjamin Edward -
BENJAMIN EDWARD HOWES Services for Benjamin Edward Howes, 53, Camdenton, Mo., were held November 5 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home in Bedford, officiated by Rev. Carl Cummings. Burial was at Dallas Center Cemetery, rural Taylor County, la. Mr. Howes died November 2, 1988 at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

Howes was born at Sharpsburg,
Iowa June 8, 1935.
He grew to maturity in Taylor County where he attended the public school and was graduated from Sharpsburg High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army and served for over five years. A part of that time was foreign service in Europe.
On September 1964 he was united in marriage to Virginia G. Williams at Burlington, Iowa and they resided in Burlington and Camdenton, Mo. No children were born to this union. He was employed by the J.I. Case Company in Burlington, Iowa and as a chief cook in Camdenton, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia and an infant brother.
Left to cherish his memory are eight sisters and three brothers: Crystal Ames of Camdenton, Mo.; Naomi Moore of Bedford; Marilyn Bradley of Charles City, Iowa; Anita Hall of Essex, Iowa; Lois Young of Nevada, Iowa; Ruth Marsh of Aurora, II.; Linda Hull of Mesa, Az.; and Jeanne Kirk, Dallas Howes Junior of Eagleville, Mo.; David Howes of Red Oak, Iowa; and Richard Howes of Greenfield, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
He was a kind and considerate brother and will be
sadly missed by all who knew
and loved him.

Hawn, Helene Marguerette Neville -
Services for Helene Marguerette Hawn,a 85, Bedford, were held Sunday, November 13, 1988 at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Carl Cummings. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, la. Mrs. Hawn died November 10, 1988 at Municipal Hospital, Clarinda, la.
Helene Marguerette Neville, daughter of Alfred and Rosa Luellen Neville, was born at Gravity, Iowa November 7,1903. She grew to maturity in the Gravity community where she attended the public school and the Methodist Church.
On April 20, 1921 she was united in marriage to Orham Dow Hawn at Bedford, Iowa and they resided in Gravity, Conway and moved to Bedford in 1962 where they have continued to reside.
To this union seven children were born: Alice, Herman, Lowell, Rex, Norman, Merlyn and Daryl.
Her family and loved ones will cherish memories of her as a housewife, homemaker, and loving mother as she shared her love for each one of her family each day.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son Herman
who died in 1945 while in the service of his country, a great granddaughter Melissa.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Orham of the home and with whom she had shared 67 years of married life; one daughter Alice and five sons: Lowell and his wife Mildred, Rex and his wife Barbara, Norman and his wife Wanda, Merlyn, Daryl and his wife Nancy, 27 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was a Gold Star mother; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the United Methodist Church.
Her family and friends will long remember the love and kindness she so willing shared with them during her life time.

Hargis, Lenora Marie Dalrymple - Funeral services for Lenora Hargis, 88 of New Market, will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Pastors Russ Clark and Kris Davies officiating. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Monday at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Church of Christ in New Market.
Lenora Marie Oxley was born February 24, 1921 at her grandparents Oxley's home just east of Siam. Her parents were Jefferson Ezra (Tom) Dalrymple and Ada Alfreeda Oxley. Lenora lived in Maryville, Missouri until her parents divorced in 1925. At that time Lenora, her sister and mother returned to Siam to live with her grandparents. Lenora attended the Siam schools and was a baptized member of the Christian Church at Siam. She transferred her membership to the New Market Church of Christ June 10, 1945. Lenora studied piano under Lola Reid and was an accomplished musician. Lenora was united in marriage to Muriel Hargis on August 31, 1942, in Maryville, Missouri. They resided in New Market where Muriel worked for Charlie Wilson. They moved to San Rafael, California where Muriel worked on a ranch for several years. When they moved back to New Market, Muriel worked for the County. Lenora worked for Clarinda Municipal Hospital for 17 years. She made many friends and liked to encourage the patients. Lenora liked to cook, can and freeze food for her family and also liked to embroider and crochet. She liked to give her work to others so they could enjoy it. She loved any animal and had many different kinds.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband, Muriel, who passed away May 19, 1983; daughters Ruth Diggs, Madeline Kelly and Sherry Hargis; and grandson Chad Hargis.
Lenora is survived by sons Melvin Hargis and his wife Janis of New Market, Rodney Hargis and his wife Ina of Council Bluffs and Lannie Hargis and his wife Edith of Pensacola, Florida; grandchildren Cathy Jager and husband Lee, Kim Haizlip and husband Jon, Mandy Ford and husband David, Sean Hargis, Heather Franz, Chari Peters and husband Kevin, Sunni Franz and David; great-grandchildren September Forbes and husband Bryan, Sarah and Courtney Epperly, Derek, David and Douglas Jager, Mathia and Malachi Haizlip, Logan and Brandon Peters, Lauren Kendall, Jonah, Molly, Alison and Michael Potach, Abigail and Gabrielle Ford; and great-great granddaughter Amelia Forbes.

Ralph Edwin Horning.
Ralph Edwin Horning, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Horning, formerly of Page county, died at the home of his parents, southeast of Bedford, Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1917, at 5 a.m.. He was born March 1, 1899, so was 18 years of age at the time of his death. He was ill with typhus fever from Friday, the 26th, to Tuesday, the 30th. He was seriously ill from the start. The funeral services were from the Baptist church in Bedford, Thursday, Nov. 1, conducted by Reverends Hatcher and Burroughs of Bedford. Interment was in Fairview cemetery. Hunter, Ivan J. Sr. - Ivan J. Hunter, Sr., 71, of Albuquerque, N.M., was born in Nodaway [Iowa] June 14, 1921, to George Washington and Bertha Clark Hunter and died May 17, 1993.
Services were held from the Valley Christian Church with the Rev Frank Dennisson officiating. Entombment was at the Floral Gardens Mausoleum of Vista Verda Memorial Park in New Mexico.
Mr Hunter was employed by the Middle Rio Grand Conservatory district for 10 years and was the transportation maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Rio Grand Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre.
He is survived by his ex-wife Hilda Armstrong Hunter; two sons, Ivan Jr. (wife Vonnie) Hunter, and Marvin W. Hunter, Sr. (wife Lois); one sister, Vera (husband Marshall) Miller of Corning; a half-brother Dean (wife Pearle) Hunter of Villisca, a sister-in-law, Marie Hunter of Almo, Mo.; and four grandsons.
Casket bearers were James, Shane, Wayne, and Jeff Hunter, Ray Ortiz, and Tom Donaldson. Honorary castket bearers were Glen Coble, Bill Carpenter, Leo Rizzo, Wilton Jones. ADAMS COUNTY FREE-PRESS, Corning, Iowa, Jun 10, 1993 |
