Allen, Bernard Delno - Celebration of Life Services for Bernard Allen, age 94, of Lenox who passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Lenox Care Center will be held Friday, March 29, 2013, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox from 3-7 with the family greeting friends from 5-7. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM following visitation. Interment will be held at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola at 2:00 PM with military rites.

Bernard Delno Allen was born October 1, 1918, in the town of Ackworth, Iowa to Jobe Harmon and Nettie Victoria (Hiatt) Allen. He attended grade school in Ackworth and graduated from Indianola High School in 1935. Bernard was a member of Ackworth Friends Church where he married Ruth Norris on June 18, 1940. To this union were born four children.

Bernard worked for Hartzler Electric and Peck Electric Shop in Indianola before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1943. Here he was employed in the ground test department of the Glenn L. Martin Nebraska Company who manufactured the B-26 Bomber. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy being discharged as an AETM 2C Petty Officer. He then moved to Osceola, Iowa where he and his brother, Eldon, started Allen Radio & Electric Shop. In 1960, he started substituting for a rural carrier with the Osceola Post Office and in 1967, was appointed as a city carrier. In 1977, he was appointed Postmaster in Prescott, Iowa. He retired in October of 1992.

While living in Osceola, Bernard joined the Methodist Church, served on the City Council, the fire department, Chamber of Commerce and Country Club Board. On November 28, 1976, he married Jean Frances (Slocum) Gordon, who brought four daughters into his family.

Bernard was a Past Master of Osceola Masonic Lodge and Past Patron of Ophir Chapter OES. He served the Grand Lodge of Iowa as Junior Grand Deacon in 1971, Junior Grand Warden in 1978, and Deputy Grand Master in 1990. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and attending the activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A high point in his later years was to participate in the World War II Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include sons Bernard D. Allen Jr. (Liz) of Excelsior Springs, MO and Lee H. Allen (Cheryl) of Hilltop Lakes, TX; daughter Abbie S. Allen (Kevin Brooks) of Grimes, IA; step-daughters Cynthia J. Baker (Galen) of Clearfield, IA, Kathy M. Brown (Gary) of Lenox, IA and Christie K. Brown (Bill) of Lenox and sister-in-law Elaine Tobis of Des Moines. Bernard has eighteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.

Bernard was preceded in death by Ruth and Jean; brothers Eldon and Ivan Allen, sister, Marie Eggars, daughter, Jane Allen, step-daughter, Connie Gordon and grandson, Robert Lee Allen

Balster, Karen England - Karen (England) Balster, age 68, of New Market, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013.
Karen was born May 7, 1944 to Walter Warren England and Dorothy Marie Rechtenbach in Creston, Iowa. Karen grew up on a farm near Clearfield, Iowa. She was married in 1960 and gave birth to a son, David Brown, in 1961. On February 14, 1993, Karen remarried Leon "Lynn" Balster in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together, they farmed and raised hogs in Minnesota. A few years later, Karen and Lynn bought a farm near Webster City, Iowa. The couple moved to their present home outside of New Market, Iowa in 2005. The couple enjoyed raising cattle at their farm.
Karen was a hard worker. She worked at Bunn-O-Matic factory in Creston, Iowa for about 17 years. Karen enjoyed being on the farm and helped raise cattle, hogs, and horses. Karen had a passion for riding horses and raising Rat Terrier dogs.
Preceding Karen in death were her parents Walt England & Dorothy Rechtenbach-England; her brother Donald Wayne England; and her husband Leon "Lynn" Balster.

Bolinger, Junior "Rocky" - Celebration of Life Services for Junior "Rocky" Bolinger, age 78, of Creston, who died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his home in Creston will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 PM with the family greeting friends 5-7 PM. Interment will be held at the Blue Grove Cemetery in rural Taylor County. Memorials can be given in Rocky's name.

Junior Lee "Rocky" Bolinger, 78 of Creston was the second oldest child of Rex Leo Bolinger and Austie (Spencer) Bolinger. He was born south of Mount Ayr, Iowa in rural Ringgold County on March 7, 1935. He said he was just born on a fence post. He worked as a farm hand for Leroy Francis, who had the best strawberries.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea, 1957 – 1959. When he was discharged, his folks had moved out west of Diagonal, Iowa and lived on the ranch. Rocky helped his Dad milk about 100 head of cows. He later worked for Tom Kenny and Raymond Dill on the farm.

Junior married Sandra Sue Shimer, June 5, 1961. They lived in rural Diagonal on the Roy Lumbard farm. They moved to Lenox in the 1960's and Junior worked for Totes. In 1968, Junior started working at the Farm and Home in Creston, so they moved to Creston in 1970, and he worked there until 1989.

Junior and Sandy decided to adopt and were lucky to get two lovely daughters from Korea.

Rocky liked to garden and always kept his yard well cared for. He collected country and western music. Rocky finally decided to do a little singing with some of the groups in the area. He wished he had started singing several years before he did. Some of the songs he liked to sing himself were: Pass Me Bye, Wind me Up, Kiss An Angel Good Morning and The Fireman.

Junior and Sandy enjoyed attending the Lenox Rodeo and the Diagonal Labor Day celebrations. They attended all the girls' school activities and continued with their grandchildren's activities. Family has always been very special to Rocky.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Sandy Bolinger; their daughters, Julie Ann (Matt) Weis, both of Creston, Iowa; Mandy Sue Bolinger (Lon) Nelson of Port Barrington, Illinois; five grandchildren, Samantha McDonald, George and Owen Weis of Creston; Kylee and Jameson Nelson of Port Barrington, Illinois; five sisters, Viola Wahl of Clearfield; Margie Kenner of Galena, Missouri; Doris (Greg Briner) Bolinger of Tingley; Dora (Ronnie) Ray of Creston; Georgia (Gene) Springer of Fairbury, Nebraska; five brothers, Lowell Dean (Doreen) Bolinger of What Cheer, Iowa; Robert (Doc) (Linda) Bolinger of Kent, Iowa; Floyd (Kay) Bolinger of Diagonal; Ronnie (Del) Bolinger of Lenox; and Melvin (Sharon) Bolinger of Knoxville, Iowa; Uncle Loren (Dorothy) Bolinger of Blockton; and Aunt Sherry Bolinger of Clearfield; four brothers-in-law, Virgin Shimer of Creston; Albert (Joy Reynolds) Shimer of Perry; Dell (Betty) Shimer; and Jackie (Marie) Shimer of Creston; three sisters-in-law, Elaine Bolinger of Sharpsburg; Kay Camden of Lenox; and Loula Shimer of Blockton; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and family.

Bolinger, Kenneth Gene - Kenneth Gene Bolinger, son of John R. and Suzie H. (Scott) Bolinger, was born June 4, 1931 at home south of Mount Ayr, Iowa. Kenny grew up in Ringgold and Taylor County.
Kenny was united in marriage to Marcia Haynes in March 1950. To this marriage was born 2 sons Mike in 1952 and Curtis in 1955. Kenny worked for Farmers Coop in Creston and retired as the manager. Kenny learned to play the Mandolin by ear and loved music. He played for Square Dances, Music Jams, and everything between. Kenny also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his garden. He is a member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston and the Clearfield Christian Church. Kenny experienced the loss of his son, Mike, on May 14, 1969 and his wife, Marcia, on May 1, 1994. Kenny married Sherry Boyer Mullin in 1995. They made their home in Clearfield since 1997. Kenny will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend.
Kenny passed away March 9, 2013 in Clearfield, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son; siblings Rex (Austie) Bolinger, Opal (Claude) Rinehart, Everett (Leona) Bolinger, Virgil Bolinger, Paul (Irma) Bolinger, Clarence Bolinger, Lloyd (Violet) Bolinger, Weldon (Rose) Bolinger; parents-in-law Randal and Ethel Haynes of Lenox; mother-in-law Betty Boyer; and step-son-in-law Phillip Kirby.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Sherry Bolinger of Clearfield; son Curtis Bolinger of Creston; grandsons Rowdy and Alex Bolinger of Creston; step-daughters Kathryn Kirby of Centerville, IA and Karole (Barry) Weeks of Ryan, IA; step-grandchildren Nickolas Kirby, Trevor Weeks, Cooper Weeks, Katelynn Kirby, and Gracie Weeks; brother Loren (Dorothy) Bolinger of Blockton, IA; father-in-law Marvin Boyer of Clearfield; brother-in-law Doug (Deb) Boyer of Clearfield; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.
Services for Kenny will begin at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Clearfield Christian Church. A light lunch and time of visitation will follow the service (begin 11:45 a.m.) and continue until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. After 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, there will be a private burial in Graceland Cemetery at Creston, Iowa

Dawson, Robert "Bob" Neil - Celebration of life services for Bob Dawson, age 74 of Bedford, who passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at his home were held Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Robert Neil Dawson was born December 10, 1938 in rural Taylor County, Iowa. Bob helped on the family farm with his dad and mom, Joe and Melba Dawson, throughout his teenage years and during this time developed a great passion for animals and cars. Bob graduated Bedford Community High School in 1958.
Bob married Carole Perkins on July 29, 1962 in Bedford. To this blessed union, one daughter, Chris, was born. Bob, Carole, and Chris enjoyed doing many things together through the years. Bob especially enjoyed taking his family to exotic animal sales throughout the Midwest.
Bob worked over 40 years in the automotive business. He then began his career as a salesman for Evans Motors and then Attebery Motors in Clarinda, Iowa. Bob also worked at Moore Pontiac in Maryville, Missouri and then later he continued on as a salesman for Cardinal Auto.
Bob always enjoyed cars. He enjoyed new cars and took great pride in keeping them clean and looking in tip-top shape. In order to do this, he might have to just keep it in storage, but it was well worth it to him. Bob also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and cheering for his favorite driver Jeff Gordon.
Selling and enjoying cars may have been Bob's occupation but his passion for exotic animals was his true love. Bob and Carole raised many types of exotic animals including Elk, Caribou, Sheep, Goats, Emus, Ducks, and Geese. However, Bob's favorite were Buffalo. Bob and Carole continued to raise buffalo until just a few years ago. Through the years Bob and Carole enjoyed giving tours of their animals to their grandchildren, neighbor children and the Bedford elementary school children, who would come every May as an end of the year field trip.
Bob also loved his dogs. Through the years he had a number of German Shepherds. They were always very close to Bob and Carole. The last dog Bob had, Stormy, would follow him everywhere.
Whether he was walking to the mailbox or mowing a pasture. Stormy was right there with him.
Other interests that Bob had through the years included; Country Music, Allis Chalmers tractors and equipment, watching football, and guess which NFL team he loved the most? Yep, the Buffalo Bills it was.
Bob and Carole felt blessed to have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in July of 2012. Bob's family was always important to him and he loved having them close.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Carole, Bedford, Iowa; his daughter, Chris Churchill and husband Craig; mother Melba Dawson; Bedford; his grandchildren Colt Churchill of Cedar Rapids and Calli Churchill of Des Moines; his brother Rick Dawson and wife Terri of Maryville, Missouri; and brother-in-law Clemie Sederburg of Essex; and many nieces and nephews.

Foote, Lois Madeline Nielsen - Lois Madeline Foote, aged 62, died peacefully on May 16, 2013 in Bedford IA , after a brief struggle with a stroke and numerous medical conditions. Lois was born Jan 31, 1951, in Council Bluffs IA, the daughter of Harold Donald Nielsen and Erma Eleanor Pruett.
Lois thoroughly enjoyed singing, embroidery and her work. She touched the hearts of many at her job with singing hymns and prayer with the clients. Lois graduated from Treynor High School and attended Iowa West Community College, where she obtained her degree as a LPN. Lois was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Council Bluffs IA and the Church of God of Prophecy in Olathe KS.
In 1973, Lois married the love of her life Robert Leroy Foote on May 26 in Council Bluffs IA. She was blessed with three beautiful children whose names were Robert Lynn Foote, Brenda Dawn Cartwright and Julie Christina Lee.
Lois is survived by her husband, Robert Leroy Foote, and children Artena Mackey, Bedford IA. Robert Lynn Foote and Melissa Foote, Andover KS. Brenda Dawn Cartwright and Jason Allen Cartwright SR, Olathe KS. Julie Christina Lee and Justin Allen Lee, Olathe KS. Siblings Harold Donald Nielsen JR and Claudia Nielsen, Roland IA. Frodsham, Wilma Edith Murren - Wilma Edith Frodsham was born in Montgomery County, Iowa near Villisca, on April 10, 1916 to Oliver Glee "Ollie" and Dora (Schroeder) Murren. She grew up in the North Page neighborhood in northern Page County. Wilma was united in marriage to Harry Edgar "Ed" Frodsham November 10, 1945 at Yuma, AZ. Wilma had moved to California in 1945 to live with an aunt during World War II and met Ed and the couple got married. They returned to Los Angeles to live . Ed's work brought him back to the Los Angeles ship yards. In January 1950 they moved to Cypress, CA where Ed worked at Douglas Aircraft and Wilma at the school cafeteria near Knotts Berry Farm & Disneyland. They were at Cypress for 12 years returning to New Market, IA in 1972 to retire. Wilma was very active in the New Market Methodist Church and the New Market Community Library. She joined the Methodist Church in Villisca at age 16. She graduated Villisca High School and her work outside the home included being a maid and a cook in cafes and school cafeterias.
In August of 2012 she moved to Nebraska to be near her daughter at Fremont. On Wednesday, April 10, 2013 Wilma went to be with her Lord. She was preceded in death by husband Ed in 1996; daughter Carol Lynn and 3 infant daughters; two sisters Roena Reed and Catherin Calhoon; and brother John Murren. Wilma is survived by daughter Lori Frodsham and special friend Duane Dockweiler both of Arlington, NE; grandsons Justin Ridnour and wife Courtney and Jason Ridnour and wife Misty, all of Clarinda; great grandchildren Jacob, Cole, Blakely and Jesalynn Ridnour all of Clarinda; sisters Leona Templeton, Red Oak, IA, Ellen Baker, Kansas City, MO; brothers Oliver Murren, Villisca, IA and Gene Murren, Erie, CO; many nieces and nephews.

Haidsiak, Grace "Jean" Kettle - Grace "Jean" Kettle Haidsiak was born to Henry & Myrtle (Bean) Kettle on December 22, 1920 in Lena, Illinois. As a small child, she moved with her parents to Blockton, Iowa. Jean helped on the farm as a child. She rode her horse "Dandy" to and from school. "Dandy" lived a long life of 40 years and many grandkids also rode on "Dandy". Jean graduated from Blockton High school in 1938. After graduation, she taught school at a country school.
Jean met Wayne Haidsiak and after dating several years, they were married in Maryville, Missouri on December 30, 1942. Three children made the family complete; Marilyn Kay, Carolyn May and George Alan.
Jean helped on the family farm while planting a large garden, cooking many meals, canning, and cleaning house. She could really cook and no one ever left hungry. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clearfield; U.M.W.; former member of the Eastern Star; and a member of Friendly Neighborhood Club. Jean enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Bingo player.
Jean passed away in her sleep on the morning of April 30, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry & Myrtle Kettle; husband Wayne on February 26, 2005; brothers Byron & Dale Kettle; sisters Marjorie Wilhite, Mildred Fuller, and Mable Smith.

Hamilton, James "Jim" Stephen - Jim Hamilton, 78, of Creston died, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. James Stephen Hamilton, the son of Leon Ray and Anna Elvira (Bjork) Hamilton, was born on April 13, 1934 in Bedford, Iowa. Jim entered eternal rest on March 13, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa at the age of seventy-eight years, and eleven months.
Jim graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1952. On April 19, 1956, Jim married Rosalie Mary Nevill in Clearfield, Iowa. Jim served in the United States Army from April, 1956 until March, 1958. Following his discharge, Jim reunited with his wife who was living in Creston.
Jim lived in Creston most of his adult life. He was a proud Southsider for over 50 years. Jim worked various jobs and for various factories. He also worked as a carpenter building houses and remodeling homes; worked for the Lumber Division of the Farmers Coop for several years; and helped in the construction of Southwestern Community College. He was employed by S.W.C.C. in various capacities. Jim worked for Van Mark for many years and retired from there at age 62. Jim loved to mow lawns and following his retirement, he started Jim's Lawn Care.
Left to cherish Jim's memory is his wife of 56 years, Rosalie Hamilton, Creston; his daughters: Lori (John) Hays and Christi (Dr. Richard) Byerly, both of Creston; his son, Steve (Candy) Hamilton, Creston; Six grandchildren: Miranda Hays, Samantha (Brandon) Whitfield; Jason and Josh Merboth; Dustin (Amanda) Hamilton; and Kassie Hamilton; One great-granddaughter, Alissa Hays; his former son-in-law, Rupert Stanley, Price, Utah; and his brother, Ed (Delonna) Hamilton, Creston. Horning, Garnett Bernice Cade - Celebration of Life Services for Garnett Horning, age 95, of Bedford, who died Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center were held Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home. Garnett Bernice (Cade) Horning was born August 13, 1917 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Carl L. Cade and Exta Nettie (Barnett) Cade. At the age of one year, Garnett's parents moved back to the family farm northeast of New Market, Iowa. She grew to maturity there and graduated from New Market High School with the Class of 1935. Garnett was a member of the Baptist Church in Bedford. After graduation, she spent several years helping on the farm as her father did a lot of custom work. She spent three years working at the Bedford AAA office which required young women to quit after marriage. On August 5, 1941, she was united in marriage to Homer E. Horning in Maryville, Missouri. To this union, two daughters were born, Jane and Kathy.
On December 31, 1941, the family moved to a rented farm just after World War II was declared. In a few years, Homer was drafted to serve his country, he was gone for two years. Upon his return home, the family started farming again, eventually buying their own farm in 1960. They continued to living on the family farm the rest of their married life. Homer passed away in 1987.
Garnett loved flowers, house plants and chickens. She devoted herself to her family, sewing, lawn work, chickens and farming. After retiring Garnett and Homer spent ten years or more working at the Bedford Sale Barn. She enjoyed entering contests, her chickens, craft work and did a lot of sewing of clothing, purses and teddy bears.
Left to cherish Garnett's memory is her daughter, Jane Luttrell of Bedford; four grandchildren, Lawanya, Lynnette, Douglas and Leisha; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; along with many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Garnett in death are her parents, Carl and Exta Cade; her husband Homer Horning; a great-granddaughter, Lashawnda in 1993; two brothers, Warren and Sam Cade and her daughter Kathy in 2006.

Johnson, Leslie Wayne - Leslie Wayne Johnson was taken by our Lord to live with Him in heaven on May 11, 2013.

He was born in Taylor County, Iowa on December 16, 1927 to Leslie and Esther (Lundquist) Johnson. Wayne was married to Nadine Hewitt on June 8, 1946, and from this union, they were blessed with five children. Wayne and Nadine farmed in the Guss area for many years. Wayne also worked at Sierp Oil in Villisca and enjoyed driving the school bus for many years. In later years, he worked at UARCO in Corning. After retirement, he returned to his school bus driving, especially enjoying the games and activities that he drove students to.

Wayne was first and foremost a BlueJay and supporter of all of the sports teams at Villisca. He also loved the Chiefs, the Royals, Creighton BlueJays and all sports in general. He enjoyed fishing and his visits to the Colorado Mountains. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends and life.

Wayne and Nadine were total supporters of their children. They faithfully and proudly attended the activities of their children and often their grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by his children: Larry and Sandy Johnson of Iowa Falls, Dan and Alberta Johnson of Liberty, Missouri, Brenda and Don Graffis of Longmont, Colorado, Marcia and Paul Blain of Council Bluffs, Steve and Teri Johnson of Shenandoah, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, siblings Marvin, Betsy Ann and Norman and a host of friends, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine, his parents, siblings Dean, Bernice, and Ray and son-in-law Gordon Brown.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with interment following the service in the Villisca Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled on Monday, May 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Rescue Squad or the Villisca Good Samaritan Home.

LaMar, Denice Lynn - Denise Lynn LaMar, 48, of Coggon, passed away on Tuesday, April 9 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service were held at Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon at a later date.
Survivors are her children, Krystal Harbin of Clarinda, Robin Black and her fiancé, Todd Larson of New Market, and Alan and his wife, Shelley LaMar of Rock Island, IL; her mother, Joyce Rogers of Coggon; her brother, Christopher Rogers of Cedar Rapids; her sisters, Debra Sterling of Cedar Rapids, Donna Geisler of Commerce City, CO, and Dee Wilson of Shenandoah; her grandchildren, Alissa, Gabriel, Brandon, Cameran, and Jaxon; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne Rogers, and her ex-partner, Frank "Joe" VanMeter.
Denise Lynn Rogers was born on Aug. 3, 1964 in Cedar Rapids to Wayne and Joyce Bruce Rogers. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Coggon, and enjoyed arts and crafts, scrapbooking, and reading.

McClurg, Ermadean Joy Bowers - Ermadean Joy Bowers McClurg, formerly of Burnet Texas, was born on July 24th, 1928.
Ermadean was born in Bedford, Iowa, and after graduation she met her future husband Eugene McClurg. Ermadean and Eugene were married on January 23, 1948. Ermadean taught school in Indianola, Iowa while Gene finished college, and when Gene joined the Air Force, Ermadean began her life as a military wife and world traveler.

Gene and Ermadean were in the Air Force for the next 23 years. Their son Rick was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and daughter Suzanne was born in Tokyo, Japan. Ermadean and Gene lived not just in Louisiana and Japan, but in San Antonio, San Angelo and Lubbock, Texas, Topeka, Kansas, Georgia, Virginia, and on the Azore Islands in Portugal. Ermadean and Gene traveled all over the world, from South America to the Far East. One of Ermadean's favorite places in the world was Madrid, Spain.

After Gene's retirement from the Air Force they settled in Austin, Texas, and lived there for many years, before building a beautiful home on a ranch in Burnet and living there for 20 years. After the Air Force years, Ermadean also became the wife of an entrepreneur when Gene started and owned 8 Mr. Gatti's pizza restaurants in Texas.

Ermadean was an artist who painted and sculpted original works throughout her lifetime. Many of her art pieces are delighting her children, grandchildren and friends, who were fortunate enough to receive them as gifts from Ermadean. She loved seeing how much delight people took in her unique artworks. Ermadean's favorite artworks were those of Spanish and Mexican artists, and she collected pre-Columbian and Mexican figures and bowls.
Ermadean was a strong, independent woman and a role model for a life lived with gusto, laughter, and readiness to always experience something new. The memories she made for all of us over the years will live on in our hearts and minds, ready to make us laugh whenever we remember the times we spent together with her.
Ermadean died on April 6, 2013, in Weslaco Texas, with her husband and children with her. She leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Gene, her son Rick McClurg, daughter Suzanne McClurg, and grandchildren Charlie McClurg and Molly McClurg, all of whom live in Austin, Texas.

Melvin, Billie Dean - Billie Dean Melvin, 78, Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Hopkins, Missouri died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa.

Billie was born September 26, 1934, in Gravity, Iowa to James Woodford and Inez Ruth (Booze) Melvin. He married Barbara Sue Wolf on June 14, 1953, in Hopkins.

A graduate of Hopkins High School, Billie was an appliance service repairman with the Maytag Company.

Billie was a member of the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Charter member of the FFA, the Lion's Club, and Volunteer Fire Department, all of Hopkins.

Preceding him in death were his parents and son Roger Dean Melvin (May 5, 1987).

Miller, Richard Lee - Graveside memorial services for Richard Miller, age 53, of Clarinda, who entered into peace Monday, May 13 at his residence in Clarinda, were held 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 17 at Washington Cemetery, Gravity. Burial was in the Washington Cemetery, Gravity. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda.
Richard Lee Miller was born Oct. 22, 1959, in Corning to Edwin Miller and Esther (Ridnour) Miller. He grew up on a farm southwest of Sharpsburg. He attended school in Lenox and later obtained his GED.
Richard lived in Des Moines for many years working a variety of jobs as a handyman, returning to Clarinda about ten years ago and continued to be very helpful to friends and at his apartment complex. He enjoyed cleaning and collecting brass and restoring brass fixtures. Richard always had a smile on his face and had a willingness to help others. He was very knowledgeable about the Bible and the Lord.
Preceding Richard in death were his father; sister, Janice Peterson; brother, Darrell Miller.

Milligan, Treva Marie - Graveside services for Treva M. Milligan of Chicago, Illinois, and formerly of Villisca, Iowa, took place Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa.

Treva Marie Milligan daughter of Lonnie Milligan and Faye Jennie Van Alstine Milligan was born February 10, 1916 in Villisca, Iowa of Taylor County and passed away May 11, 2013, at the age of 97 years and 3 months. Treva grew up in the Guss vicinity and attended country schools there. Please make note that Treva’s small town was located on the then CB&Q Railroad, unaware that her career would be in transportation. Treva started down the
path of education, obtaining her teaching certificate in the early 1930’s.
Treva went to Omaha, Nebraska in 1942 to pursue a career in business, something not typical at that time for a lady from a small town. Treva was always ahead of her time, and was a mentor to so many other women she influenced. Treva was employed by the New York Central, an off-line passenger department handling all passenger reservations to New York City. A good portion of clients were ready-to-wear clothing buyers in Omaha and the vicinity.
An opening came about as secretary to the then traffic manager in Omaha for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Treva was employed there and in 1956 transferred to Chicago and was secretary to the freight traffic manager for the Chicago area where she remained until retirement in March 1981.
Even after retiring from the railroad, Treva decided to start her second career! An unprecedented move for a woman of her era. Treva was always ahead of her time. Treva went into the real estate industry working for Thomas F. Seay and Associates, Gordon Strong & Company and Seay and Thomas Construction and Development, Inc. It is at those three companies, that she formed yet another family of admirers and friends.
During her career and through to her passing, Treva became deeply committed to organizations she truly loved and devoted so much of her time to. Soon after arriving in Chicago Treva became familiar with the National Association of Railway Business Women and joined the Chicago Chapter. Treva was president two terms (when the membership was nearly 1,200 members) and served as chair on every committee. Treva was elected to serve on the national board of NARBW as recording secretary, 3rd vice president, 2nd vice president and has attended nearly every convention, since becoming a member.
Other organizations Treva dedicated her time to included Woman’s Traffic Club of Chicago, where she was president in 1971-72 and her latest and greatest organization, the Transportation Old Timers Society (TOTS). TOTS is a culmination of all of her colleagues over her many decades in the transportation industry. Up to only a few months ago, Treva could be organizing a luncheon or a holiday party or simply providing any services to her TOTS friends, no matter what the task. Even as recent as 18 months ago, Treva travelled with a dear friend to a convention! Nothing stopped Treva in her passion for transportation and her dedication was a tribute to her love for her colleagues and beloved TOTS pals.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister and brother Harry James Milligan.
Treva is survived by family members, and a host of friends, including railroad and transportation friends, who were like
family to her.

Moore, John Darrell - John Darrell Moore, age 70, of 109 Cedar Street, Boone, IA and formerly of Bedford, died at his home on March 14, 2013. Following his wishes, his body has been cremated. A Memorial Service was held Monday, March 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone with Rev. Daniel Solomon officiating. Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens in Boone at a later date.
John was born in Gravity, Iowa, on March 13, 1943, the son of J. Darrell and Claris (Jones) Moore.
He attended school in Gravity and helped on the family farm.
John completed his last two years of high school at Bedford Community High School in Bedford where he graduated in 1961.
On August 16, 2008, John married Marian (Springer) Lebo at Las Vegas, Nevada.
After graduating from high school, John immediately became a telecommunications installer throughout the state, working for Western Electric, Bell Telephone, and AT & T. He retired in 1992.
After retirement, from 1999 to 2005, John performed contract installations for DST in Kansas City, Kansas.
He enjoyed gardening and canning his produce, woodworking, and coin and gun collecting.
John is preceded in death by his parents and a son John ‘Jaye’ Darrell Moore.

Murphy, Mary Graham - Mary Murphy, age 81 of Centerville, Iowa passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was born February 21, 1932 in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Alvah and Bernice (Weinrich) Graham. She graduated from Atlantic High School. Mary married Joe Murphy on September 24, 1949 in Hiawatha, Kansas.

Joe and Mary settled on a farm just north of Adair, Iowa. In 1958, they moved to Atlantic, Iowa. After residing in Atlantic for two years, Joe became employed with the State of Iowa Department of Natural Resources working in state parks. Due to his career, Joe and Mary moved numerous times throughout Iowa, including Pammel State Park, Winterset; Lake Darling, Brighton; Lake of Three Fires, Bedford; and Honey Creek State Park, Moravia. In 1989, Joe and Mary moved to Branson, Missouri upon Joe's retirement from the DNR. They moved back to Centerville in November of 2006.

Mary was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was very special and treasured, by her. She loved to host family gatherings and spend times with loves ones. Mary was also a very devoted child of God and worked on many church projects and groups over the years. She had a passion for art, spending many of her years creating and teaching others with her special talent. Mary owned Paint N Primitives for many years in Centerville teaching a large array of painting and craft classes. Once Joe and Mary moved to Branson she continued to teach classes, owned and operated The Hummingbird's Nest Bed and Breakfast, as well as sharing her talent with endless visitors of Silver Dollar City creating specialized parasol and other souvenirs. Most recently Mary was working at The Shoe Tree, volunteering at New Hope Counseling Center, attending and decorating the First Baptist Church, and enjoying time with her Bridge friends. She was always a gracious hostess opening her home to any and all that stopped in for a visit.

She is survived by her husband of sixty three years Joe Murphy of Centerville; three children, Pamela (Gary) Messersmith of Centerville, Michael (Sherry) Murphy of Centerville, and Patric (Margaret) Murphy of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Paula (Mark) Adams, Jason (Kelly) Murphy, Sean (Theresa) Murphy, Jesseca (Ron) DeVore, Jennifer (Brandon) Frampton, Sara Murphy, JT (Heather) Murphy, and Adam Messersmith; twelve great grandchildren, Franchesca DeVore, Madison Murphy, Jackson Adams, Dakota DeVore, Katie Murphy, Caleb Murphy, Karlie Murphy, Brenna Murphy, Zachary Murphy, Cora Frampton, Thomas Murphy, and William Frampton; one sister, Carol Jean Correll of Webster Grove, Missouri; and a multitude of other relatives and friends.

Murray Fred Newby was born August 25, 1918, in Marion County, Indiana the son of Horace Newby and Lelia (David) Newby. He grew up attending school and living in Marion and Morgan County areas most of his life. He graduated from Decatur Central High School with the Class of 1936, where he played basketball all four years. Murray met Virginia Belle Knoy, a young woman who lived down the street, and the couple were united in marriage on October 3, 1943. They were blessed with the birth of two sons, Donald and Steve, and a daughter that died at infancy.

Murray and Virginia farmed while living in the Indianapolis area for many years. They purchased a farm in the Gravity, Iowa area and they decided to move to Gravity to be near their family. Murray enjoyed farming and the lifestyle it provided his family. He was involved with the Indiana Berkshire Association, having served as a Director. He enjoyed raising Berkshire Hogs and showing them at the Indiana State Fair for many years of his life. Murray also enjoyed farming with horses and mules . . . and it would have suited him just fine to continue in that tradition!

O'Connor, Maurice Griffin III - Maurice Griffin O’Connor III was born at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO on June 3, 1947 to Maurice Griffin O’Connor and Ruby Elinor (Bickel) O’Connor. He entered into rest at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Villisca, IA on April 15, 2013. He was known to all by the name “Pat”. This name was given to him by a delivery nurse who thought he looked like a handsome Irish lad, and this name has stayed with him throughout his life.
Pat attended elementary school in Blockton, Iowa, Junior High at Conway Middle School, and High School in Bedford, Iowa. He graduated from Bedford in 1967. He loved to play football in high school, and even played one game with a broken leg. His senior year, he was awarded honorable mention All-Conference.
Pat served in the United States Army in Germany from 1967 to 1969. Following his discharge from the Army, Pat returned to the States and pursued a career training racehorses. His love for horses and rodeo took him all over the country, and allowed him to make many close friendships, which he cherished. Pat enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his great-nieces and nephews.
Pat is survived by his siblings, Maurine Jane & Gerald Larson of Grayling, Michigan; Norma Jean & Kelly Butler of New Market; James Edward & Selina O’Connor of Blockton, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Michael H. Wilmes, and nephew Jason A. Wilmes.

Pitman, Gary "Penny" Allan - Celebration of Life Services for Gary Pitman, age 76 of Bedford, who died Friday, April 26, 2013 at his home in Bedford will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Bedford. Gary "Penny" Allan Pitman was born February 15, 1937, in Portland, Oregon the son of Harry Pitman and Frances Opal (Joslyn) Pitman. Gary was raised by his mother and grandparents in Gravity, Iowa where he graduated from high school with the Class of 1956. He worked for Don Weil's Locker driving a stock truck. Gary was united in marriage to Donna Snyder on January 29, 1959 in Clarinda, Iowa. This union was blessed with the birth of four children, Allan, Amy, Adam and Angela.

Gary was drafted into the United States Army where he served active duty for twelve years in the Untied States, Germany and three tours in Vietnam. After he was honorably discharged, the family lived in the State of Washington for a number of years before relocating to Bedford to be near family in the late 1970's. In 1979, Gary and Allan became active in the National Guard, retiring in 1985. Gary worked at Hawkeye Lumber Yard and did carpentry. Later he was in maintenance for the Bedford Nursing Home, and then the Clearview Homes in Mount Ayr, retiring in 2008 at age 71.

Gary was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford where he served as a Deacon. He was a member of the John F. Hardin American Legion Post having held several offices, including being the present Commander, and was a Board Member of the Bedford Meal Site. He enjoyed woodworking and being a 'handyman who always had a project'. Gary possessed a giving heart and was always willing to help anyone. Gary was a people person and truly loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and remained active in their lives. He never knew a stranger and enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife. Gary was very patriotic and loved his country and enjoyed talking about current events.

Mary Mae Posten, the daughter of Harry and Josie (Cabbage) Cochran, was born in Taylor County on March 28, 1914 and she entered into rest at Bedford Nursing and Rehab in Bedford, Iowa on April 15, 2013 at the age of 99 years and 18 days.
Mary grew up in the Clearfield and Diagonal area where her parents were farmers. She attended Clearfield High School and graduated in 1932 having taken "normal training" during her last year to become a school teacher. Following graduation she taught for several years at different country schools around Clearfield.
On August 8, 1936 she was united in marriage to Lester Joseph Posten in Chicago, Illinois. Mary and Lester eloped with the families' knowledge so that she could continue to teach for one more year. Mary now became known as Mary Mae since her mother-in-law's first name was also Mary. To this marriage two sons were born; Victor Dean and Kermitt Lee.
In their early years, Mary Mae and Lester lived on rented farms. In 1943 they purchased the farm of 115 acres, two and one half miles west of Gravity, Iowa, where she lived for 59 years. In 2002, due to failing health, she left the farm and moved into Silver Hills Apartments in Bedford, Iowa. From Silver Hills she moved to Bedford Nursing and Rehab in 2010.
Besides being a housewife, mother, and helping on the farm, Mary Mae was also active in the community. She was an active member of the Gravity Christian Church, the Rebekah Lodge of Gravity and later Bedford, the America Cancer Society, and numerous other clubs and organizations. Mary Mae was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, a substitute teacher and teacher's aide, and the Washington Township cemetery recorder during her life.
Mary Mae enjoyed life, loved her flower gardens, and loved being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; her oldest son Victor in 1991; her parents and a brother Marvin. Rucker, Clarence Lowell - Clarence Lowell Rucker, age 86, of Red Oak, passed away, Sunday, May 12 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Clarence Lowell Rucker was born September 9, 1926 in Clarinda the son of Clarence and Florence (Bramble) Rucker. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary Irene Graham o n May 2, 1945 in Troy, Kansas. Lowell and Mary lived in many different places over the years. They moved back to the southwest Iowa area in 1964. Lowell retired from Dolly Madison when they were living in Lincoln, Neb. Lowell had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak for the past six years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Mary; brothers: Don and Lee Rucker; and grandson: Chad Rucker. Survivors include his children: Larry Rucker and wife Phyllis of Clarinda; Linda McAlpin and husband Dick of Red Oak; and Lisa Hernandez of Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brothers: Bob Rucker and wife Dorothy of Bedford and Keith Rucker and wife Jo of Cheyenne, WY; sisters: Pat Macrander of Ashland, NE and Betty Waltermyer of Fremont, NE; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Graveside memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Methodist Grove Cemetery near Nodaway. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements

Rupp, Barbara Louise Shimer - Barbara Louise Rupp was born May 10, 1948 in Conway , Iowa; the oldest child to Gus and Rowena (Wyckoff) Shimer.
Barbara married the love of her life, Wayland Wesley Rupp, in Maryville, Missouri, on July 22, 1964 and to this union was born two boys: Terry and Tony. She loved nature and had a very kind heart for all living things. Barb worked at various jobs but took most pride in being a mom and housewife for her family.
Barb enjoyed music and played the piano very well. She also was the first chair saxophone player in the Bedford Dance Band. Barb loved angels and they took her home to be with her Lord on March 29, 2013 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. She fought a tough and courageous battle with cancer for a short term. Barb is preceded in death by her father Gus.
Surviving Barb is her husband of 49 years, Wayland of Bedford; mother: Rowena Shimer of Bedford; children: Terry Rupp and Tony Rupp both of Bedford; grandson David Rupp and wife Amanda of Creston and their daughter Gracie; siblings: Betty Rupp and husband Wesley of Clarinda and Mike Shimer and wife Bonnie of Bedford; along with many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, April 4, 2013 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with Pastor Daryl Tompkins officiating. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford. Memorials are suggested to the family. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements

Shimer, Rowena Louise Wyckoff - Celebration of Life Services for Rowena Shimer, age 91, of Bedford, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 15 at her home in Bedford were held Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Visitation were held one hour prior to services. Interment were held at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be given in her name.

Rowena Louise (Wyckoff) Shimer was born June 3, 1921 in Bedford, Iowa the daughter of Arthur Elmer Wyckoff and Essica Gladdis (Shehan) Wyckoff. When Rowena was only 16 years old, her mother passed away, leaving her to be the 'woman of the house', caring for her father and brother. She graduated from Bedford High School with the Class of 1939.
On June 27, 1942, Rowena was united in marriage to Gus C. Shimer in Maryville, Missouri. To this union three children were born, Barbara Louise, Betty Mardella and Michael Edwin.
Rowena loved all of her family. She played the piano and guitar by ear and enjoyed singing and yodeling. Everyone was always welcome in her home, and she would often invite her guests to stay and share a meal with the family.
Rowena worked at Cudahy Packing Company, the Highway Café, the Junction Café, O'Bryan Brothers and cleaned homes. She loved caring for and helping others. Rowena lived her entire life in Bedford and was always very proud of her entire family. She believed in God and had a 'heart of gold'.
Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend are her children Betty Mardella and husband Wesley Rupp of Clarinda; Michael Edwin Shimer and wife Bonnie of Bedford; son-in-law, Wayland Rupp of Bedford; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Don (Buddy) Wyckoff and wife Olive of Norwalk, Iowa; along with many other family members and friends.
Preceding Rowena in death are her parents, Arthur and Essica Wyckoff; her husband Gus Shimer on January 20, 1991; and daughter, Barbara Louise (Shimer) Rupp on March 29, 2013.

Stewart, David Drexel "Boug" - David Drexel "Boug" Stewart was born in Platteville, IA on April 18, 1926 the son of David Alfred Stewart and Amy Belle (Matheny) Stewart. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 14, 2013 in Des Moines, IA at the age of 86 years old.
David spent his childhood living on farms in Taylor County with his 6 siblings who were quite adventurous. He attended area schools and graduated from Bedford High School. He met and married Phyllis Jennings and was blessed with two daughters, Judy (Paul) Pask and Tina (Fred) Abbott. This marriage was dissolved and he met and married Leona Blood and was blessed with Connie (Howell) and David. During this time he was also in the United States Army from 1953-1967. He was very proud of his service to his country. He ended his marriage to Leona and met Wylene Marie Horton and they moved to Yakima, WA and were united in marriage on April 6, 1966. Into this union were born Marlene Kay Stewart and Cindy Belle Stewart. David was also blessed with 3 step children, Fredrick Horton, Donald Horton and Sandy Horton (Donner). David, Wylene and the two girls lived in Yakima until 1976. The family then moved to Clearfield, IA to be closer to David's family where he resided until after Wylene's death in January 2010. He then moved to Des Moines, IA to be closer to his daughters. David was also blessed with 27 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren who he loved very much. David enjoyed spending time with his brother Arlo on his farm, fishing for catfish, home improvement projects, listening to country music at local jam sessions and attending American Legion meetings and events in Blockton, IA. He was also involved in the Taylor county American Legion where he held office for many years. David was active at Valley View Village where he lived independently. He could often been seen at the "round" table enjoying a cup of coffee, a cookie and good company.
David is survived by his children Judy (Paul) Pask, Connie (Tom) Howell, David (Cindy) Stewart, Marlene Stewart and Cindy Stewart; step-children Donald (Peg) Horton and Sandy (Scott) Donner; as well as many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents David Alfred and Amy Stewart; brothers Arlo, Dwight and Donald; step-son Fred Horton; daughter Tina Abbott; son-in-law Fred Abbott; grandson Cord Abbott; and granddaughter Cassandra Cheatham; sister-in-law Donna May.
David will be missed by his entire circle of family and friends.

Walston, Elvin "Ace" Earl - Celebration of Life Services for Elvin "Ace" Walston, age 85 formerly of Bedford, who died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Kansas City, Missouri will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment with military rites accorded by the John F. Hardin American Legion Post No. 164 will be held in the Hopkins Missouri Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers well wishers should make a donation to their favorite charity.

Elvin Earl Walston, also known as "ACE Walston" was received in heaven on April 14, 2013. Ace was born April 24, 1927, the son of Thomas and Cora (Weese) Walston in Maloy, Iowa. He graduated from the Conway High School in Conway, Iowa with the Class of 1944. After graduation he joined the United States Army in 1946, where he was in training until he met Marjorie Morehouse and married her in August of 1946. He spent 1946 and 1947 stationed in Okinawa, Japan with the US Army occupation forces.

Marge preceded "Ace" in death in 1985. "Ace" remarried in 1989, to Kathy Broyles who passed away in 2008.

In the time that "Ace" was allowed to be on this earth with the family that loved him, he resided in Iowa and Missouri, the last working years of his life he worked as a Machinist for Trans World Airlines, where he retired in 1989. At that time he moved to Bedford, Iowa where he finally had time to do what he wanted, have one of the most beautiful lawns in Taylor County. Due to his health, he moved back to Kansas City in 1994 to be near family.

Left to cherish the memory of "Ace" are his three children, Sheryl Rounds and husband William Round Sr,; Don Walston and wife Shelia; and Randy Walston and wife Mandy; seven grand children, William Rounds, Jr. and wife Regina of Lathrop, Missouri; Laurie Whitfield and husband Jason of Liberty, Missouri; Jaimie Weida and husband Eric of Lathrop, Missouri; Hayley Coons and husband Shane of Kearney, Missouri; Todd Chenault of Kansas City; and Jake and Vanessa Walston both of Kansas City; thirteen great-grandchildren, Cassie and Cammie Rounds, Cameron and Sydney Whitfield, Allison Jones, Megan and Caitlyn Coons, Trevor, Taylor, Anthony, Holly and Lilly Wieda and Kirsten Chenault; "Ace" was also blessed with one great-great-granddaughter, Ella Mae Becker; his long-time caretaker, Pat Odette; along with many other relatives and friends

Williams, Juanita Laura Tally - Juanita L. Williams, 91, Clarinda, entered into peace Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda. A private interment was held in the Clarinda Cemetery, Clarinda. Memorials may be directed to Juanita L. Williams Memorial and may be sent to David Williams, 12873 Eagle Road, Clearmont, Mo.
Juanita Laura (Tally) Williams was born on Oct. 11, 1921 in Clinton, Mo., to William Dow and Mary Jane (Hamilton) Tally. She was the fourth from the youngest of ten sisters and six brothers. As a young child, she moved from Clinton, Mo., to a farm near New Market, with her family. Juanita attended school in Clarinda and New Market. During her senior year she completed her Teachers Training and took her teaching test to get her certificate. She taught in Rural Page County schools for four years before her marriage.
On July 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to Ernest Rogers Williams. After World War II they returned to Southwest Iowa to farm and in 1955 moved to the family farm near Clearmont, Mo.
Ernest and Juanita retired from farming in 1978 and moved to their home in Omaha, Neb. Juanita moved to her current home in Clarinda in 2000.
Juanita loved being out gardening, tending her roses and other flowers around her home. Her love of family and God kept her busy with sewing, quilting and crocheting projects most of which she gave to her loved ones as gifts.
Juanita is survived by a son, David E. Williams and wife Judy of Clearmont, Mo.; a daughter, Irene Mesterhazy of Omaha, Neb., and a daughter-in-law, Mija Williams of Alexandria, Va.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Williams; son, Lt. Col. Erwin L. Williams; and son-in-law, John J. Mesterhazy

Wiseman, Leland Harry - Celebration of Life Services for Leland Wiseman, age 97, of Bedford, who died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Visitation with the family greeting friends will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at the Hopkins Missouri Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to the family or Hopkins Cemetery.

Leland Harry Wiseman was born March 25, 1916, in Burlington Junction, Missouri the son of Silas Wiseman and Margaret (Sexton) Wiseman. He grew up living on farms in the Hopkins and Pickering, Missouri areas. He attended East Country School through the 8th Grade. Leland worked as a farm hand for several years. On May 18, 1937, he was united in marriage to Hazel Marie Sharr in Maryville, Missouri. They were blessed with the birth of two children, Larry and Marilyn. Because of Hazel's asthma problems, the family moved to California in the mid-1950's, returning to Hopkins in the early 1960's. Leland worked for Woldruff-Allison Ford for many years. He also drove school bus and farmed east of Hopkins. In the mid-1970's, he drove a rock truck for Nodaway Contracting, retiring in 1981. Leland and Hazel moved to the Northside Apartments, where he mowed for many years until his health forced him to retire once again. Leland entered the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center in December of 2002. Hazel passed away on January 30, 2006.

Leland was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Orrsburg, Missouri, and was a member of the Hopkins Saddle Club. He and Hazel enjoyed dancing to country music and attending music shows and local dances. Hazel and Leland were active in their children's lives and activities. They enjoyed attending horse shows, parades and trail rides.

Left to cherish Leland's memory are his two children, Larry Wiseman and wife Sharon of Bedford; Marilyn Oxley and husband Carroll of New Market; four grandchildren, Rick and Randy Sheley, Jeff Wiseman and Gale Christensen; eight great-grandchildren, Jamie, Megan, Josh, Seth, Erica, Tyler, Leslie and Seth; five great-great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends.

Wurster, James Merwin - Funeral services for Jim Wurster, age 75 of Lenox, who passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at 2:00 PM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox. Visitation will be Monday at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox from 3-8 PM with the family greeting friends from 5-8 PM. Interment will be held in the North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. James Merwin Wurster, the son of Walter George and Letha (Basler) Wurster was born February 12, 1938 on the family farm east of Lenox. Jim attended a one room country school [Platt #5] from Kindergarten through 8th grade. He was raised and baptized in the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. After graduation from Lenox Community High School in 1956, Jim attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. for 2 ½ years. While attending college he met Judy Jacobsen from Walnut, IA. They were united in marriage on June 27, 1959.

Jim and Judy began their new life together on a farm east of Lenox. Jim chose farming as his career and started with a crop share agreement with his father. He farmed a small number of acres of grain, and had a milk cow, some hogs and laying hens. In 1960, Jim and Judy expanded their family to include their first child, Kimberle Sue.

Jim continued to expand his farming while at the same time growing his family. So in the spring of 1962, Jim and Judy moved ½ mile further north. He eventually purchased this farm from Jim's father and to this day this is the family home place. In June of 1962, God blessed Jim and Judy with the arrival of Kristi Ann. A year and a half later, another blessing came in the form of Julie Kay. The family was blessed with two sons; Gregory James, born in 1966, and Jason Walter born in 1975. Their home was a constant flow of activity and joyful noise. Jim's love for his children was instantaneous and never faltered for even a moment.

Over the years, Jim continued building his farming business while at the same time devoted to providing for his family and working diligently every day to make sure this goal was reached. Jim adapted to new methods of farming as they developed through the following 52 years. By the time Jim retired from active farming in 2012, he had gone from general farming, to hog producer/grain farmer, to total grain producer.

Jim's primary focus was his family. Each child was encouraged to get further training and/or education after High School graduation. Jim was a wonderful example for his children and grandchildren of integrity, commitment, honesty and following through on all responsibilities associated with work, marriage and children. Jim had unconditional love for his wife and children. When he didn't agree with his children's actions or choices, he relayed his disapproval by quiet changes in his demeanor –the disapproval was felt not heard.

Besides family activities, Jim was a member of a bowling team for several years and in a couples' 500 Club for many years. He always had an interest in automobiles and over time obtained a collection of several classic cars.

Later in life, Greg and Jim started farming together. Although he thought there was no need for a semi-truck with grain trailer Greg decided to purchase one. Jim soon realized how convenient that type of truck was and purchased one for himself. He enjoyed keeping all his equipment clean and always waxed his tractors & combines. Engine oil was changed on schedule and many grease guns were worn out as he continually greased all necessary parts of the automobiles, trucks & farm equipment. Many hours were spent polishing wheels on cars, pickup and his semi. He was an early riser and enjoyed taking one of his classic cars out for a spin in the early morning hours when there was little traffic and he could enjoy a peaceful drive on hard surface roads. In the past two years he became a dedicated exerciser and changed his diet to eating more healthy food. Bicycling was his preferred exercise and he kept increasing the distance of his rides until his maximum distance per day was 27 miles.

Jim participated in play and teasing with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. He followed their activities by attending all that he could and listening to them relate their successes and defeats. He was supportive of their involvement with love and encouragement. Jim's home was open to all of his children's' friends day or night. He was a "giver" not a taker in his daily life.

His love for his family was forever! He considered his wife and his children and his children's' families his greatest Blessing. Jim was small in stature but God blessed him with a magnificent heart –one big enough to quietly give a piece to all those he loved. We were blessed to have him as our husband, dad, grandpa, brother, friend, and partner! His Spirit will be with us always. He will just be watching over us, encouraging us and protecting us from a different location.
