HAWARDEN - Logan & Buncombe townships, Sioux County,
Platted 1882, Incorporated 1887 (Calliope, first settlement in
Sioux county 1860, annexed with Hawarden 1893) Founded in 1860 as
Calliope by Hubbell, Frame, Bell and Stone; 1882 settlement of
Hawarden and 1893 they combined into one incorporation. Railroad
arrived on Oct 4 1878 in Calliope and 1882 in Hawarden; First Post
Office Calliope Feb 3, 1862 and discontinued on Jan 31, 1911;
Hawarden Post Office est. Dec 31 1882;
Cemetery
- Grace Hill Cemetery is the city cemetery which is
made up of 3-4 early cemeteries. The bodies were reburied at
Grace Hill. Recorder is located at the city clerks office.
Records are kept from before 1890, complete and thorough from
1900 on, including birthplace, age, cause of death, informant,
and etc.

- St Mary's Catholic Cemetery formerly called Calvary
and an old Family Plot.
