Added links to the main Census Records page for available Archive.org downloads of Federal Census Records for Shelby County. A few years ago Allen County Public Library microfilms of all original Federal Census records for Shelby County were digitized and uploaded to Archive.org, a non-profit internet library. Census records are not indexed, transcribed, or searchable at Archive.org, BUT anyone can freely download complete census records for Shelby County and scroll through the original images on their own computer. Please note the file sizes when choosing a format to download. PDF file format is popular and widely used, but it does require significantly more hard drive space than some other options and consequently the download will take longer. (8/30/2015)

Additional info obtained regarding the Elk Horn Lutheran Confirmation photo contributed in 2010! This photo was believed to be circa 1899, but is now known to be from April 8, 1900. The original Confirmation Record in the Elk Horn Church record book, listing the names and birth dates of all 27 confirmands, has been transcribed! (5/10/2015)

Added the biography of Senator Thomas Henry Smith from the 1915 Past and Present of Shelby County, Iowa. It was recently discovered that although Smith's name has appeared in the 1915 biography index on this site for at least several years, it was incorrectly linked to the bio of another individual, and Smith's biography had apparently never been transcribed. The entire 1915 biographies section has now been reformatted to the current site background and colors, etc. (4/1/2015)

Work is now beginning on uploading, indexing and linking of the next portion of this collection contributed by Alice Buman Bontz and Ray Buman, covering the years 1997-2013.
