SAMUEL SMITH
Samuel Smith was born in Guernsey county, 0., in 1836; removed to Guthrie county, Ia., in 1857, and engaged in farming. He engaged in freighting to Denver, Col., in 1861 and 1862; then returned to Guthrie county, where he remained until 1869; then came to Shelby county; engaged in teaching several years, and previous to the coming of the railroad to Harlan, ran freighting teams between there and Avoca.
