Brief History Recorded About Davis, Penniman, Terrill Families Mr. and Mrs. William Davis emigrated from Ireland to America in 1848, landing in Chester County, Pennsylvania. Seven years later they moved to Putnam County, Illinois. To this union 6 children were born, 4 boys and 2 girls, Joseph, John, Thomas, Elijah, Mary J. Pennimann, nee Davis and Hattie. Mr. Davis died shortly after the family moved to Putnam County and in the year 1879 Mrs. Davis and her family moved to Sac City and lived in the house where Mrs. Howard Quail lives now on North 12th Street, until her death on March 12, 1893 at the age of 82 years. With Mrs. Davis the C.C. Penniman family moved to Sac City at the same time. They lived in the home where Mrs. Bess Longman lives now on Hobbs Street. Mr. Charles Penniman carried the U.S. Pony Mail between Sac City and Newell and had his half way stop on the Old Keir farm north of Sac City. Two sons were born to this union, Charles A. and Frederick. Charles A. Penniman for many years operated the Livery Barn where the Sac City Motor Co. is now, and was married to Mary J. Davis. To this union 3 daughters were born, Amy, Hattie and Etta. Etta died on April 24, 1883; Hattie was called to her Eternal Home on Feb 25, 1891. His daughter Amy was united in marriage to William H. Terrill in Sac City in the spring of 1890. William H. "Billy" Terrill also emigrated from Mineral Point, Wisconsin to Sac City in 1886. They lived in the house where Lloyd Martz lives now on North 11th Street. One daughter Helen was born to this union and is now the wife of J.J. Poort. "Billy" Terrill was a harness maker in this territory for over fifty years and in 1888 had his shop back of the U.S. Postoffice where The Sac Sun office is today. Billy will also be well remembered for the services he gave in the Fife and Drum Corp. in those years. William H. Terrill passed away on December 7, 1941; his wife Amy preceded him in death on December 13, 1937. Mrs. Charles A. Penniman passed away Jun 10, 1896, at the age of 43years, Charles A. Penniman remarried Annie Kane to which union one daughter , Elsie was born, who will be remembered as Elsie Krumvedie Hamilton. To this union one daughter was born, now Mrs. Ninnabelle Baker of Hinsdale, Illinois. Frederick Penniman was united ...... article cut of here |
