Class History
On September 2, 1946, five green Freshmen entered Tingley High school. They were: Betty IMES, George IMES, George PETERS, Jack ENGLAND, Walter ZARR and Lyla CLOUGH. The teachers during that year were: Gladys KIBURZ, Superintendent and English teacher; Howard VER PLOUGH, Coach, Algebra and Manual Training teacher; Vera GUSTAFSON, Commercial; and Mrs. Beulah KESTER, General Science teacher. In the fall we were initiated and became full fledged members of Tingley High School.
When we came back for our Sophomore year, Betty IMES was not with us, meanwhile Bill GOODWIN from Winterset had joined our group. Vera GUSTAFSON, our typing instructor left us to teach in Orient. A new faculty member, Mr. Olin BISSELL, taught us World History and Typing. He also conducted the Tingley School band and music.
Bill left us at the end of our Sophomore year. For our Junior year, we had all new teachers. The were Galand McGINNESS, Superintendent and Coach; Mr. FINDLEY, our Agriculture, Government and Physics teacher; and Mrs. FINDLEY who was our England and Music teacher. On October 22nd, we gave our Junior Play which was entitled "Aaron Slick from Pumpkin Creek". On April 10th we had the Junior-Senior Banquet with the theme of the "Forty Niners".
In our last year in Tingley High, four of us remained as classmates and Mr. McGINNES stayed with us. Mr. and Mrs. FINDLEY went to Gravity to teach. Miss Cleo WELDIN, and Mr. John SOLOMON were our new teachers. Miss WELDIN taught our English and Mr. SOLOMON taught Commercial. Mrs. Beulah KESTER returned to teach us Home Making and American History. We took part in the Junior play entitled "Dotty and Daffy". OUr Senior play was given on the 5th of May in 1950 and the Junior-Senior Banquet was given on April 28th at the Legion Hall. The theme was "An Old Fashioned Garden". Commencement was held on May 16th and Baccalaureate was on the 14th of May.

A PARTING GUEST
What delightful hosts are they--
Life and Love;
Lingeringly I turn away,
This late hour, yet glad enough
They have not withheld from me
Their high hospitality.
So, with face lit with delight
And all gratitude, I stay
Yet to press their hands and say,
"Thanks--So fine a time: Good night,"
THE LAST INVOCATION
At the last, tenderly,
From the walls of the powerful fortress'd house,
From the clasp of the knitted locks from
the kepp of the well-closed doors,
Let me be wafted.
Let me glide noiselessly forth;
With the key of softness unlock the locks
--with a whisper,
Set ope the doors O soul.
Tenderly--be not impatient,
(Strong is your hold O mortal flesh.
Strong is your hold O love.)
NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down today,
Nothing gold can stay.
THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day;
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
