ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMES DOWN
Mount Ayr-Record News photograph
After 64 years of providing space for educating area young people, the 1936 portion of the Mount Ayr Community elementary school is being knocked down this week, marking the end of an educational era and taking many school memories with it. Different eras of school buildings were illustrated in this picture, with the rock recognizing the 1915 building torn down when the facilities were built in 1980 in the foreground, the 1936 building coming down and a corner of the new 2010 building addition to the elementary showing.

Demolition Conintues at 1936 Building
Demolition of the 1936 building at the Mount Ayr Community elementary school progressed this week, with the building almost
completely down when this picture was taken Monday night [March 29, 2010]. Once the building is completely down, the
hole will be filled and the area prepared for parking and grass areas. The new view of the elementary school is beginning
to be visible now. The old building served the district for 73 years.
