RINGGOLD COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS
Sylva DOLECHECK was born in 1888, and graduated from Diagonal High School in 1908. She taught in the Diagonal vicinity for many years prior to
her election as Ringgold County School Superintendent in 1927. She was the wife of Frank KLEJCH. Sylva died in 1944,
and was interred at the Bohemian Cemetery, rural Diagonal, Iowa.
Vera F. DICKENS was born in 1896, and graduated from Diagonal High School in 1914. She taught school for two years prior to
attending Simpson College at Indianola. She graduated from Simpson in 1920.
Vera assumed responsibilities at Ringgold County School Superintendent in 1933. At the time, there were 94 rural schools,
10 town schools, and 57 school districts. [Today in 2010, there are two school districts: Diagonal and Mount Ayr.] The whole of
Ringgold County turned out to honor Vera in December of 1965. She retired in 1966.

For reasons of ill health, Miss Vera F. Dickens, Ringgold County Superintendent of Schools for the last 33 years, has submitted her resignation, effective May 1. ~ ~ ~ ~
Vera died in 1967 and was interred at
Diagonal Cemetery.
