Hazel Glen School No. 8, Washington Township, was originally located several miles southwest of Diagonal. It was probably
named for the many hazel nut trees in the area.

A Children's Day program will be presented June 20, at Hazel Glenn, and among those who will take part are Paul, William and Alden SHIDLER, Earl CAMPBELL, Foster HALL, Otto TENNANT, Vera RAINS, Grace CAMPBELL, John COVERDALE, Leo RAINS, Ethel and Esther CABARET, Arma FINGER, William RAINS, Harry ZENTZ and Mary DINKEL.

Hazel Glen school was moved to Ellston and restored as a rural school museum.
On the side of Hazel Glen School is a sign reading, "Key Stone 1912, Mt. Ayr School." Below this sign is a cornerstone
engraved "1912."
Hazel Glen School was moved from its original site to Mount Ayr school grounds where it was used as a classroom
until 1979. It was moved to the Pioneer Center at Ellston where it was restored. The school is open during the
summer on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and when the museum complex is open, or by appointment. Contact
