Benton High School was built in 1916. Benton's last graduating class was the Class of 1958. All of the students then attended classes at Mounty Ayr except for the Fifth and Sixth grades who attended the class at the Benton school house for a while. The build was comdemmed as being unsafe and was bulldozed. Its steel beams were salvaged and the rest of the building was buried in 1982. The building's portal and the school house bell was salvaged and erected near the community building.
