Drake nominee for superintendent of year state award
Joe DRAKE, superintendent of Bedford Community school district and a Ringgold county native, was a nominee for the 2008-09
Iowa Superintendent of the Year award sponsored by the School Administration of Iowa. "We are pleased to recognize
school leaders who represent excellence in education," said Dan SMITH, SAI executive director. DRAKE'S peers nominated
him for this recognition andhe will be recognized at SAI's awards banquet in August. This is the third time in his
tenure at Bedford that he has been a nominee for the award. "This award speaks highly of our staff, community and students
in the district. We are very fortunate to have teachers and staff who really care about students," DRAKE expressed. He
has been superintendent at the district since 1993. Before coming to Bedford, DRAKE spent 11 years in Fairfax and South
Nodaway school districts in Missouri as a teacher, coach, athletic director and secondary principal. Dr. Lane PLUGGE,
superintendent of the Iowa City Community School district, was selected as this year's award recipient.
