Fire destroys residence, but no injuries reported
Fire destroyed the home of Derrick and Kasey DREDGE southeast of Mount Ayr on Monday. No body was hurt in the fire after a
smoke detector alerted the family of the danger.
An early morning fire Monday morning destroyed the inside of the home of Derrick and Kasey DREDGE at 2485 240th Street,
two and one-half miles southeast of Mount Ayr. The DREDGES were awakened a little after 1 a.m. by the sound of a smoke
detector and found the home filled with smoke. They grabbed their five-month-old daughter Darcy from her bed and got
out of the house. The Mount Ayr volunteer fire department arrived within 15 min-utes, but the house was in flames
by that time. The front part of the structure remained intact, but the backside of the house burned through the roof
and there was fire damage, water damage and smoke damage throughout the home. It is thought that the fire began in
wiring in the laundry room area of the home. Fire chief Mike WIMER stayed at the home until 5:30 or 6 a.m. to make
sure there were no hot spots that rekindled. While the house was destroyed in the fire, the DREDGE'S business Dredge
Performance and Repair, which is located at the some address was not involved in the fire and will continue to operate.
