Arlan Kay BROWN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. BROWN, of Beaconsfield, and a former instructor in the Mount Ayr
Community Schools, is one of 24 Peace Corps Volunteers home on leave prior to departing January 2 for Central
America. According to Mr. BROWN, who was a pleasant caller Tuesday afternoon in the Record-News office, he
will teach in a medical college in San Salvadore, El Salvadore.
The FFA sponsored hootenanny, held December 23, in the school gymnasium, ushered in the Christmas season in fine
style for the Pepsi generation. The Starfires, a swinging combo, offered a variety of rhythms, which were thoroughly
enjoyed by the youthful dancers.
Jim OLSEN, a native of Elk Horn, assumed his duties Monday as manager of Anthony's Department Store in Mount Ayr.
He succeeds Fred ROBERTS, who, with Mrs. ROBERTS, two daughters and son, left Monday for Columbia, MO., where he
will manage a department store in a new shopping district. He had served as manager of the local store for the last
16 months.
