It will be both a celebration of Scottish heritage and the 125th birthday of Mount Ayr when the Ayr Days
celebration is held in Mount Ayr September 8-10.
Elizabeth GARRETT of Diagonal placed third in the bed-sized quilts division for handpieced quilts in the
Fabric and Thread Creations contest at the State Fair.
A Diagonal 4-Her participated in the clothing program held at Merle Hay Mall in Des Moines during the Iowa
State Fair. Abby STEPHENS of Diagonal was one of the participants in the program and received a certificate
of participation. She advanced to the State Fair after winning the clothing selection contest at the
Ringgold County Fair.
Brett ENGLAND from Ringgold County received a blue ribbon at the Iowa State Fair for his project to restore
a pickup truck.
A local 4-Her was installed in the 2000-01 state 4-H Council at the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Iowa
4-H Youth Conference recently. Amy HYNEK of Ellston was selected to serve on the council earlier this year.
A ribbon cutting was held at the new Ringgold County Farm Bureau office on Highway 2 and 169 in Mount Ayr at
an openhouse Thursday. The office was moved from the former building east of the square.
Lois DAVIS of Beaconsfield brought in a group of large, white mushrooms. The largest of the mushrooms
measured 22 inches around.
