John A. BEARD, Mount Ayr attorney, was elected secretary and treasurer of the Third Judicial Bar Association at
a meeting held in Creston.
J. B. CURRIE, long-time resident and highly respected citizen of Mount ayr, will be honored this evening by Faith
Lodge, No. 179, at a dinner to be served at the lodge hall by ladies of the Order of the Eastern Star. The occasion
commemorated CURRIE'S being made a Master Mason in the hall of Faith Lodge on April 30, 1903. He has the distinction
of bein the first member to receive this honor.
The Mount Ayr schools will take part in the state-wide Save The Children "Bundle Week" drive to collect used clothing
for needy children. Clothing collected by the National Children's Clothing Crusade is used to aid needy children and
families in Koea, in war-depleted countries of Europe and the Middle East and in disadvantaged rural areas of the
United States.
The senior class of the Benton high school will present the class play, "The Stroke of Twelve" May 6. The cast of
characters will enclude Glenda HILL, Belle BOWEN, Doyle ADAMS, Tom GROVES, Lovena HALL and Duane CAMPBELL.
Jo WISEMAN, owner of the Fairway Cleaners in Mount Ayr, was elected president of the Mount Ayr Business and Professional
Women's Club at the club's regular meeting. Mrs. WISEMAN succeeds Miss Mary HORNE. During the past month club members
had sponsored the sale of "The Iowan," a magazine printed in Shenandoah and prizes for selling the most subscriptions
were awarded to Thelma CARYL, Jean TYSON and Margaret PENCE.
TINGLEY -- Cpl. Robert ENGLAND, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd ENGLAND, who has been stationed in Germany with the armed
forces received his honorable discharge at Camp Custer, MI and returned home Thursday night.
In other news, the
senior clas play, "Watch Out Lizzy," was given Friday evening in the Community Theatre to a full house. Taking part were
superintendent OBERMEIER and the seniors, Ann and Allen O'NEAL, Dee and Jo Ellen ARCHBOLD, Gertrude PRIEST, Marvin GROUND and
Joan HANNAH, and Kenneth GROUT, a junior.
