RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, October 29, 1987

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Two Mount Ayr Community high school students were chosen to participate in the all-state music festival, the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians, during tryouts Saturday in Atlantic. Jerry NOBLE, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, was named to play the snare drum in the all-state orchestra and Sean THOMAS, a junior at Mount Ayr Community high school, will sing bass with the all-state chorus.

Even a duck was on hand to help in the fund-raising for the Ducks Unlimited banquet at the Mount Ayr American Legion building last Wednesday. It is anticipated that more than the $9,000 raised last year was donated to the various activities of the evening. A group of almost 200 people attended the event to raise money for habitat for waterfowl in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

When Grandmother Lillie WEST chose a container to preserve her muffins, she chose well. Some 27 years after Mrs. WEST'S death, a two-quart jar containing one muffin, was found by her granddaughter, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) STOGDILL of Beaconsfield, as she was looking around the abandoned home of her late grandparents near Graysville, MO.

Sharon and Duane GLICK were presented a plaque at the annual board of trustees meeting of the Group Home for Mentally Retarded Adults held October 21 at Small Corral. The 21 persons who attended were saying "thank you" for the tremendous effort the GLICKS had put forth in making a reality the recently completed facility in west Mount Ayr.

Marcia STAMPER, a second-year (junior) student at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, is the recipient of a $500 national scholarship grant. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle STAMPER of Mount Ayr and a 1986 graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.
