The Mount Ayr volunteer fire department is the proud owner of a new rescue unit, a 1948 Cadillac hearse, presented
by Paul VARNER of the Varner-Crew Funeral Home in Clearfield, which has been remodeled inside and painted white
on the outside. The rescue unit is to be used for carrying the resuscitator, oxygen, gas masks and fire fighting
equipment.
Appointment of Donald L. WOOD as a member of the Farmers Home Administration county committee has been announced
by S. Merwyn ALLEN, the agency's county supervisor in Ringgold, Madison and Union counties. Mr. WOOD has lived in
and farmed near Ellston for several years and is a member of the Ringgold county extension council. He succeeds
Harold LORIMOR of Mount Ayr, whose term expired this year.
Janet TIDRICK and Louise FARIS of Mount Ayr have been elected a four-year member of the board of directors and
secretary, respectively, of the newly organized District 12 of the state nurses' association. The Misses TIDRICK and
FARIS, registered nurses, are employed in the Ringgold County Hospital, where the former also serves as supervisor of nurses.
T. J. WOODS announces the opening of offices Monday in Mount Ayr for the practice of optometry in the TIMBY
Building, formerly occupied bythe Small Fry Shop. Dr. WOODS was formerly located at Winterset.
G. Dale HERRINGTON of this city [Mount Ayr], retiring Lions Club 9-C district governor, has received an attractive
certificat which awards him the distinguishing title of International Counsellor, by special action of the International
Board of Directors. In addition to the certificate, Mr. HERRINGTON received a specially designed International
Counselor diamond-studded lapel button.
