There will be a popular debate Friday night at the M.E. Church. The subject to be debated is, Resolved, that patronage of mail order houses is a benefit to the community, and members of the teams are:
Affirmative - Clayton Chandler, Millard Jackson and Porter Havely; Negative - Dr. Walker, Frank Smith and G. E. Turner. Others who will appear on the program are Faye Rhoades, Feza Reynolds, Imo Hoff and the boys' glee club.
R. A. Lawhed left today with his car of stock and household goods for Torrington, WY, where he will later be joined by his family and where they will make their home.
D. D. Beard has been appointed town marshal by Mayor James Beard and is now doing duty as marshal and night watch. Bird Gilliland continues to serve as night watch, being employed by the businessmen, and Mount Ayr now has two faithful men on the job.
T. W. Napier and family moved yesterday to their farm in Rice township. Mr. Napier completed the first of January eight years of service as county auditor of Ringgold county and voluntarily retired from the office to return to his farm.
Elsie Wyles came Monday evening and will be employed during the spring season as trimmer at the Hughes & McCammond Millinery.
George W. Burnside and family moved last week from near Villisca to the W. T. Sams farm near Maloy. H. S. Kidney and family, who have been living on the farm, are moving to WY.
William Dowling, of this city, and Frank Dowling, of St. Joseph, MO, purchased last week from E. W. Poor his grocery stock in the Odd Fellows building. The meat market, which has been conducted in connection with the grocery, will be discontinued and the Dowling Brothers will confine themselves to the grocery line.
Mrs. Hattie Ogle, who has been appointed temporary postmistress by the bonding company, took possession of the office last Tuesday. She will be assisted by Mrs. Faye Ives.
BEACONSFIELD - Rowland Koerner sold his blacksmith business to Beadle and Reasoner.
DIAGONAL - T. A. Zachary, who has been employed by A. L. Crawford in the lumberyard here, has accepted a position with the Kirkwood Lumber company at Burns, KS.
MALOY - At the special election held Saturday for the purpose of voting on the schoolhouse bond proposition, the votes were as follows: Women, 39 for and 27 against; Men, 56 for and 27 against, making a total of 95 for and 32 against.
