The average value of an acre of farmland in Iowa reversed a trend of two years of small declines to post 4.3 percent gains
in 2000, according to the annual survey of farmland value conducted by Iowa State University. The average acre of
farmland in Ringgold county was valued at $918 in 2000, up $29 or 3.2 percent from previous year's $889. The price of
$918 is the highest since farmland values tumbled to $388 an acre in 1986. The prices still havenot reached the record of
$1,075 an acre set in 1981 for the average acre of Ringgold county farmland. The statewide average value jumped to
$1,857 an acre, up $76 an acre or 4.3 percent, according to Michael DUFFY, Iowa State University extension economist
who directed the survey.
The month of December is going into the record books as some of the coldest on record, while the snow accumulations are
also reaching near record proportions for any December on record.
Daniel ZOELLER, an exchange student from Germany, is currently staying with Philip and Carla JOHNSON at Sun Valley Lake
in Ellston. While attending Mount Ayr Community high school this year, he has been active in many athletic activities.
He was manager of the volleyball and football teams this fall and is a member of the Raider boys basketball team
this winter.
A dozen Mount Ayr Community Raiders returned as letter winners for the 2000-01 boys basketball squad this season. Those
returning were Ryan ROE, Josh SMITH, Austin ADAMS, Dustin EIGHMY, Nick JOHNSON, Matt LYNCH, Forrest HAWKINS,
Matt ROUTH, Jaren RICKER, Travis HINZ, Wiley MAIN and Wes ALLEN.
