Ringgold county residents will begin receiving 1984 vehicle registration renewal notices Nov. 1. Iowa will begin
changing the renewal period of December and January over to a staggered system using the owner's birth month.
The staggered system will apply to all vehicles except trucks registered for a gross weight of more than five tons.
Two Ringgold county people were among the 100 senior citizens from across the state participating in the sixth
Older Iowan's Legislature held at the state capitaol October 24-26. Paulyne MEADOWS of Kellerton and Kenneth
MORROW of Diagonal were both elected earlier this eyar to represent area senior citizens at the event,
sponsored by the Iowa Commission on the Aging, to provide a forum for elderly citizens to express their major
concerns to the general assembly and the governor.
Big Bird Nursery has donated some equipment to the new child care facility in the basement of the Mount Ayr
Public library and the donation was accepted at the meeting. The group has also applied for a federal grant
to be used for equipment and for physical improvements needed to bring the library basement up to child care
regulations.
Between $11,000 and $12,000 was sent to Ducks Unlimited organization following the first annual 100 Point
Chapter Ducks Unlimited banquet held in Mount Ayr last week. Almost 200 people attended the banquet at the
Mount Ayr American Legion Wednesday, Oct. 19, which included an auction and a number of fund-raising drawings.
John TAYLOR came away with the 1983 Ducks Unlimited commemorative shotgun for $900 and Randy VARDAMAN came
away with the Honda three-wheeler from the raffle at the Ducks Unlimited banquet. Jim JOHNSON of Lamoni
presented the grand prize in a raffle to benefit wildlife.
New Ringgold County Republican Women officers were installed at a luncheon meeting at Small Corral Saturday.
Officers are Linda SICKELS, treasurer; Marjorie WERNER, secretary; Ellen ELLIOTT, second vice-president;
Sheila SHAFER, vice-president; and Karen BENDER, president. Bessie PARKER is third vice-president. Mildred
ELLIOTT, Sue WOOD, Marilyn MONDAY, Linda SICKELS and Cheola GEIST reported on the national convention.
Volunteers from the Ringgold county chapter of the Red Cross were recently presented a Red Cross Gold Farm
award for outstanding bloodmobile services.
