Among the list of champions in the livestock division of the Ringgold County Fair this week were these three entries: Jenny FARIS of Mount Ayr showed the grand champion market beef, a Chianiana-Maine Anjou cross; topping the market division of the swineshow was an entry by Jenny SHIELDS of Mount Ayr, a Hampshire-Duroc cross. Shields also showed the top pen of three and the champion market gilt. Grand champion of the market division of the lamb show was entered by Dustie ABEL of Clearfield. ABEL also showed the supreme champion purbred ewe.

Krista SHAHA of Mount Ayr was crowned Ringgold County Fair queen and Holly WURSTER of Tingley was named county fair princess in the opening evening of entertainment of the county fair here Thursday night.

Four hours of tractor pulling on two tracks was held Friday night, the largest crowd in recent fair history turned out for the demolition derby Saturday night, and a horse pull was featured in evening entertaiment for the first time Sunday night.

For the 10th straight year, the Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes landed themselves a spot in the regional softball tournament. The Raiderettes did so by winning the sectional tournament, played on Mount Ayr Community turf, for the fourth consecutive season.

The drought of 1988 meant that Ringgold County hay fields have some of the lowest yields per acre in the state, according to the Iowa Crop Report for hay in 1988.

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 172 of Mount Ayr installed their 1989-90 officers at their regular meeting on July 10. Doris SHEIL was the installing officer, assisted by Vera DEEMER, installing sergeant-at-arms and Emma MINNICK, installing chaplain. The following were installed: president Thelma RUSK; first vice-president, Jan CANNON; second vice-president, Verla REPP; secretary, Catherine CRAWFORD; treasurer, Emma MINNICK; historian Flo BISHOP and sergeant-at-arms, vera DEEMER.
