Four persons were hospitalized following a two-car accident, which happened Sunday near the city limits of Gentry, MO.
Those brought to the Ringgold County Hospital were Marvis (Bud) WILSON and his daughter, Sharon, of Redding, and their
mother-in-law and grandmother, Mrs. Ruby DANIELSON of Shelton, WA. Mr. WILSON, the driver, suffered a punctured lung
and five fractured ribs when he was thrown against the steering wheel. His daughter was cut about the face and head
and Mrs. DANIELSON suffered a slight concussion. All remain hospitalized. Other occupants of the WILSON car, which was
described as a total loss, were Mrs. WILSON and son Alan and Mrs. DANIELSON'S two daughters, Iva and Jen. Iva suffered
a foot injury but was not hospitalized.
Billy WILSON of Redding has accepted the offer of the board of education to serve as janitor in the schoolhouses of Mount
Ayr. He succeeds Stanley HORNE, who resigned. Other janitors for the school are Wayne CARTER and Raymond WALTER.
Pvt. Ronald BAGLEY suffered fractured ribs and bruises early yesterday morning when he lost control of his car, which
overturned at the junction of Highways 34 and 169, six miles east of Afton. Mr. BAGLEY was returning from Des Moines to
Mount Ayr, where he is spending his leave from the marine corps with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert BAGLEY, at the
time of the accident.
The Mount Ayr Mill and Feed Company, in observance of the 34th anniversary of its founding,
will hold a weekend sale. Free pony rides will be offered Friday and free refreshments will be served. A pony will be
given away, drawing to be held at 4:30 p.m.
Candidates for queen of the Blockton Centennial were entertained at a tea Sunday afternoon in the home of Mabel FINK.
Co-hostesses were Mary STROBURG, Loraine KING, Patsy STROBURG, Phyllis FAUBION, Kathleen HENSON and Delores HENSON.
Selected as candidates were Mary POORE, Judy HEYLE, Vetra GOFF, Lynette KING, Ila Kay SEIFFERT, Phyllis RUSCO, Alice KING,
Jackie SCHOENMANN, Sharon GROFF, Janet ABERNATHY, Marcelene LOGHRY, Pat HILLERS, Ruth HILL, Dixie
MILLER, Lynda LARISON, Jilene NORRIS and Paulette CAMPBELL. Crownbearers for the coronation -- Greg LOUTZENHISER and
Peggy STROBURG -- were named by the queen candidates.
Royce and Pearl DAVIS, with a low score of 45, won the couples' golf tournament played Sunday on the local course. Twelve
couples participated in the two-ball foursome. Other low scorers were William and Susie CORLL with a 50, Bob and Bea ROE,
53 and Sam and Mary NEWTON and Elmo and Fra ROE, each couple with a 54.
