At the close of the first four months, Ringgold county leads all other counites in the state in the sale of U.S.
savings bonds. Ringgold county had savings bond sales totalling $334,302 for 60% of its 1960 quota. Iowa's
average was 39% and the national average was 34%.
Doyle THOMAS of Grant City, MO has been offered a contract by the board of education of the Mount Ayr Community Schools to
teach physical education and coach wrestling in the high school. A contract to teach world history and driver education
in the local high school during the 1960-61 school year has been offered to Ezra RICE of Waterloo.
Charles BUTRICK has tendered his resignation as administrator of the Ringgold County Hospital, effective the first of
June. Mr. BUTRICK has accepted a position as administrator of the Loring Hospital, an endowed institution, at Sac City,
at a substantial increase in salary. Mrs. BUTRICK has served as stenographer in the Ringgold county agricultural extension
office during the past few months.
Billie WIMER, senior in the Mount Ayr Community high school, has been elected president of the student council for the 1960-61
school year. Billie is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard WIMER of Mount Ayr.
Shirley GOINS has been selected by the state 4-H club committee as one of eight candidates who will seek election at the
girls' state convention which will convene June 7-10 in Ames. Shirley, a eight-year member of the Jolly Jinglers 4-H Club,
is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GOINS of Diagonal. As valedictorian she was graduated Friday night from the Diagonal
Community high school and this fall will attend Iowa State University in Ames as a home economics major. Her leaders are Mrs.
George VICKER and her mother.
A three-man track team, which had qualified for the state track and field meet, sponsored by the Iowa High School Athletic
Association, competed Saturday on the East Des Moines track. In his specialty, the discus throw, Garry WION won
second place when he hurled the platter 141 feet, four inches against the winning throw of 151 feet. It was only his third
loss of the season. Jerry JOBE placed fifth in the state meet when he threw the football 199 feet, the winning throw being
214 feet. The third qualifier, H. Don SMITH, who completed in the state broad jump event, failed to qualify.
