Hundreds of Mount Ayr residents shivered through Saturday evening and early Sunday morning as natural gas service
was interrupted to the city. According to Iowa Southern Utilities manager Leroy BLESSMAN, the trouble started at 10:30 p.m. Saturday
when a valve froze shut at the border station on the Michigan-Wisconsin pipeline south of Mount Ayr and excess moisture in the
natural gas caused the freeze-up.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill HAROVER and Julie will host a 17-year-old exchange student from Brazil. Elza Do Prado VIVIANI is expcted to arrive
Jan. 31 from her home in Rio de Janeiro.
Three directors were elected to the board of the Ringgold Mutual Insurance board of the Ringgold Mutual Insurance
Association at its annual meeting. Named to three-year terms were Keith LININGER of Shannon City, Roger MORRISON
of Mount Ayr, and Dr. Fred WOOD of Osceola.
A special dedication service was held Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Kellerton Assembly of God Church. The church, whose
pastor is Rev. Keith BURTON, was able to burn the note for remodeling done at the church recently.
Stacey Lee WHITE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phil WHITE, and Rodney Lynn SHIELDS, were united in marriage Nov. 20, 1977 in
a service conducted by Rev. Phillip KINTON at the Mount Ayr First Christian Church.
Brenda DAVISON, daughter of Richard and Carole DAVISON of Maloy, was installed as worthy advisor of Mount Ayr
Assembly No. 160, Order of Rainbow for Girls, Sunday, Jan. 22 at the Masonic Temple.
Seven area students recently completed degree requirements at Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, MO.
Students were: Terry RINEHART of Mount Ayr, master of science in education; Shirley WALLACE of Benton, Linda GRAY
and Linda SMITH of Blockton and Angela FISHER of Mount Ayr, bachelor of science in elementary education; and Robert
PAYNE of Ellston and Malcom EIGHMY of Mount Ayr, bachelor of science.
