H. Don SMITH, senior of the Mount Ayr Community high school, won first place honors in local competition of the Iowa
High School Oratorical Contest held Thursday at the high school. SMITH, who spoke on "Our Living Constitution," was
awarded #12 by Donald DAILEY in behalf of Ringgold Post No. 172, American Legion, sponsor of the contest, The judges,
Doyle DENHART, Mrs. John WERNER and the Rev. John LIPINCOTT, awarded second place honors to LeRoy CREES and third
place to Carolyn DRAKE.
Maurice HANSON of Diagonal is the new county 4-H boys chairman, having been elected to that position at the organization
meeting held Monday in Mount Ayr. Ralph BRAMMER of Redding was elected secretary. Other members of the committee are
Jim DAUGHTON of Kellerton; Leroy SCHLAPIA of Diagonal, and Ray STANLEY of Beaconsfield.
