Janet Elaine DENNIS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan DENNIS, was a special guest Sunday afternoon at the 10th anniversary
celebration of the opening of the Ringgold County Hospital. She was the first-born on April 17, 1951, following the
opening of the hospital two days earlier. Approximately 200 persons registered Sunday afternoon during the Ringgold
County Hospital's annual open house and the 10th anniversary of its establishment in Mount Ayr.
Bob ALLEN has been chosen by Dewey Post 516, American Legion,of Tingley and the Tingley Lions Club as their
representative at Hawkeye Boys State at Camp Dodge. A son of Mr. and Mrs. David ALLEN of Tingley township, Bob is a
junior and honor student in the Mount Ayr community high school. He is president of the Tingley Methodist Youth
Fellowship, an active memberof the Tingley Toppers 4-H club and prominent in school affairs.
Seven oil paintings by Robert CLARKE, of Denver, CO will be on exhibit at the Mount Ayr Public Library this week. Son
of Mr. and Mrs. Frank CLARKE of this city, Bob is a graduate of the Mount Ayr high school and the State University of
Iowa, Iowa City. He is serving asassistant manager of the Commercial Finance of Denver.
During the annual meeting of the Mount Ayr Bowling Association held Tuesday night of last week, officers for the
ensuing seasons were elected. Officers who will direct the activities of the association, are Everett REYNOLDS,
president; Lyle DULANY, vice president; Bill MONAGHAN, secretary-treasurer, and Kenneth B. WILSON and Bob ROE,
executive committee members.
The Redding junior high girls won over Delphos, 23-21, in a softball game played Friday. Five girls -- Pat LYNCH,
Connie KNAPP, Marlene SAVILLE, Vera COMBS and Kay SAVILLIE -- shared the pitching
duties for Redding. Vondine HALL and Connie KNAPP caught. The Delphos pitchers were Leola MINNICK, Carol SHAY and
Sharon LESAN with Judy BRAMMER catching.
A 13-year perfect attendance school record has been established by a member of the 1961 senior class of the Mount Ayr
Community high school. Calvin LAMBERT, who graduated Tuesday, has attended school for 13 years without an absence, a
record which few people attain. Calvin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen LAMBERT.
Two other members of the May graduation class -- Larry DENNEY of Redding and Ronnie SHIELDS of Tingley -- have a
perfect attendance record for their four years of high school.
Joe DENHART and Betty WALLACE were presented as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the 1961 senior class
during the annual Class Day program held Monday afternoon in the schoolhouse. Joe is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle
DENHART of Mount Ayr and Betty is a daughter of the Chester WALLACES of Benton.
