Francis PETERS, president of Peters Construction of Newton, the general contractor for the new Mount Ayr Community school buildings, was killed in a plane crash in Arkansas last week. The plane crash killed PETERS and the pilot of the plane.

A steer was killed in an apparent attempt to steal it from a farm in the northwest part of the county Sunday night. According to Ringgold County Sheriff's Department investigation, it looked like someone tried to load the steer on a pickup truck and choked the animal to death in the process. None of the other 45 head of cattle at the farm were injuried.

No further progress in the cases of the three defendants charged in the murder of Alberta MICKAEL is expected until after March 1, 1981 after a district judge extended the time for filing pretrial motions and taking depositions in the case last week. District Judge James BOWN sustained the application by the defendant's lawyers to extend the time in a hearing in Clarke County District Court in Osceola December 17.
