Three Mount Ayr Community high trackmen will be participating in the state track meet this weekend in Iowa City. They
include Eugene RICKER who will participate in the 100, 220 and broad jump, Ricky DEFENBAUGH who will run in both the
high and low hurdles and Mike SULLIVAN who will throw the shot. All are sophomores. Chet ROED is the coach.
Jeani BASTOW, 16-year-old baton twirler, was one of two winners in the Bill Riley Talent Show taped Tuesday night in Des
Moines. Miss BASTOW, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles BASTOW of Mount Ayr, and the other first place winner, Gary BEAMAN
of Greenfield, drum soloist, appeared Sunday afternoon on Channel 8, TV, during the regular talent show. Young BEAMAN is
a great-nephew of Floyd (Brady) BEAMAN, formerly of Mount Ayr. Miss BASTOW appeared on the program in Des Moines as
winner of the show held recently in Kellerton.
A pickup truck driven by E. M. FISHER, 54 years of age, who resides north of Diagonal, went out of control Sunday about
6:30 p.m., on the streets of Diagonal, climbed a bank and overturned. Mr. FISHER escaped injury, but Mrs. Ida SCHOFIELD,
a passenger in and owner of the pickup, sustained minor injuries and was brought to the Ringgold County Hospital.
One hundred and six persons registered Sunday afternoon during the annual open house of the Ringgold County Hospital.
Neil NORRIS, custodian of the Redding school for the past eight years, has resigned his position, effective at the end
of the present school term. The NORRIS family intends to move to Marshalltown, where Mr. NORRIS has accepted another
position.
Emil MATHAY of Luxembourg, Germany, an International Farm Youth Exchangee, will arrive May 26, in Ringgold county, where
he will be a guest until June 14, of Mr. and Mrs. Roger MORRISON and family of Tingley township. The 23-year-old youth
is a farmer in his native land of Luxembourg, a small country located in the triangle bounded by Germany on the east,
Belgium on the north and west and France on the south.
A farm, consisting of 466 acres, which had been owned by the PIERSON and SCOTT families since 1858, was sold Saturday at
public auction to Clinton D. RICE of Mount Ayr for $77 per acre. The farm, offered by the estate of Lura SCOTT, is
located six miles east of Mount Ayr on Highway 2 and one mile north in the southwest corner of Monroe township.
On the occasion of the occupancy of their newly constructed farmhome, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd ENGLAND and Bill of Tingley were
given a surprise housewarming Saturday night by neighbors, relatives and friends.
Norma WALLACE was installed Worthy Advisor of Mount Ayr Assembly No. 160, Order of The Rainbow for Girls, at an open
installation held Sunday in the Masonic Temple.
