James F. CLOUGH of the Kellerton area effectively averted a near disaster in the Phil YOUNG home north of Afton March 15. CLOUGH was doing electrical work in the attic
when YOUNG'S 96-year-old mother, the only other person in the house, noticed fire in an enclosed porch on the main floor. Braving highly toxic fumes and smoke
from burning plastics, Jim moved first to save the family dog, a Golden Retriever that had just undergone surgery, quickly removed and put out the heart of
the fire, then in unfamiliar surroundings foud a coat for Grandma as she stood outside in the chill. The fire was of unknown origin and damage to the house
was minimal.
