Karen TAYLOR was crowned Ringgold County Fair quen, Debbie SMITH was named princess and four acts qualified for the
Bill Riley talent show at the state fair during the grandstand entertainment before a large crowd at the Ringgold
County Fair Sunday night.
Bob RICKER, Jr., of Chariton, a former Mount Ayr resident, won first place over 38 other pipe smokers in competition
held in Prescott Saturday, July 19, at the 32nd annual convention of the International Pipe Smoking Clubs. RICKER
kept his 3.3 grams of tobacco burning one hour, 32 minutes and 34 seconds. (The world's record is two hours,
six minutes, 39 seconds.)
