Bob CLARKE, a senior in the Mount Ayr high school, was awarded first place honors in the outdoor Christmas
decorating contest, sponsored by the Mount Ayr Lions Club. Bob's display is considered his best effort. The central figure
is the Christ Child in the manager with his mother, Mary, kneeling at his side. Other decorations, lights and flood
lights enhanced the scene.
By way of making his cafe a more modern place of business, Donald (Mickey) ROUTH last week installed a Kewanne stainless
steel dishwasher. The two tubs, which are faced with gray enamel, hold 16 gallons of water. The one, equipped with a force
pump, runs water heated to between 140 and 160 degrees, and water from the rinse tub is heated to an 180-degree temperature.
Robert K. McCREARY of Liberty township was elected a director of the Iowa Polled Herford Association at a meeting held
in Des Moines, in conjunction with its state show and sale. In the show Robert and his father, F. McCREARY, exhibited the
first place winner in the strong senior yearling heifer class.
Farmers in Tingley township defeated the proposal to establish and maintain fire fighting service at the special election
held at the Tingley Theatre.
