Mount Ayr Community high school's Raider marching band brought home a division I rating from the state marching band contest in Des Moines Saturday.

The Mount Ayr Community and Diagonal school boards met in a joint meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to discuss the possible sharing of the football, werestling and track programs for the coming year. Diagonal secondary principal Larry TEPLY reported on a survey of student interest which showed eight students interested in the high school football program and four interested in the junior high football program for the coming year. Two Diagonal junior high players have been participating inthe progr m here this season.

Of the 195 students in the Grand Valley Community school district, 98 live in what will be the Mount Ayr Community district; 74 live in what would be the Central Decatur district; 10 live in what would be the Lamoni district; 10 live in what would be the Murray district; and, three live in the area that has yet to be assigned. Many of the students are currently open enrolled in or out of the district as well. A total of 28 students are open enrolled into the Mount Ayr Community district and 17 are enrolled out.

The city council approved use of Shaq, new officer Bob BOOTH'S dog trained for finding drugs and search operations, as a member of the police force Monday night. BOOTH had used the dog when he was a member of the Ringgold County Sheriff's Department in the past.

Shad ENGLAND of Tingley, a 10th trimester student at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, has been named to the colleg dean's list. ENGLAND is enrolled in a five-academic-year course of study leading to the Doctor of Chiropracti (D.C.) degree.

Lisa SWIGART recently was hired as office and program assistant for Ringgold County Extension. Lisa is from the southeastern rural area of Ringgold county and is a partner in a farming operation with her husband, Ed. Lisa has served on the 4-H and Youth Committe, is a 4-H parent, assists in the local 4-H club, and is very active in community and church. Janelle SCHAFER also serves as a program assistant and substitutes for SWIGART as needed.

October is Industry Recognition Month and the Ringgold County Development Corporation and Mount Ayr Chamber of Commerce wishes to acknowledge five businesesses in Ringgold county. These five businesses are Dekko Automotive Technologies - Mount Ayr Products Division, Grant City Manufacturing in Mount Ayr, Miracle Recreation, WoodLink, LTD, and Taylor Fiberglass Burial Vault Co.
