Archie PALMER of Mount Ayr escaped with minor injuries Friday evening about 8 p.m. when as emi-truck load of cattle
went out of control and overturned near Chetopa, KS, a few miles from the Kansas-Oklahoma state line. Upon being informed
of the accident, Mrs. PALMER left immediately for Oswego in company of her sister, Eunice DADY and Don HALLERN of Des
Moines. They were accompanied home Sunday by Mr. PALMER.
C. Arthur HANSEN, superintendent of the Mount Ayr Community
schools, will attend the 66th Congress of American Industry in New York as the guest of the Security State Bank, Iowa
Southern Utilities Company, Rideta Electric Cooperative, Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company, board of education
of the Mount Ayr Community school district and the Creston Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
H. C. (Whity) WISEMAN, 43, was
killed Tuesday near Medellin, Columbia, South America, in a road construction accident. This sad information of his
untimely death was received yesterday morning by Mrs. WISEMAN at her home in Mount Ayr. Mr. WISEMAN died when a bridge
buckled and caused a large crane to slide into a pickup truck in which he was riding.
Members of the Rebekah Lodge for 25
years or more were honored Tuesday night. Those honored were Jennie HALE, Cora KNIGHT, Amanda BECK, Marietta BROWN, Fornola
VIRDEN, Paulyne MEADOWS and Hazel BRADLEY, all of whom were present except Mrs. MEADOWS. Mrs. HALE, a continuous member
for 56 years, received her 55-year jewel in June.
Seventeen dollars cash was taken Sunday night from a cash register of
the Mount Ayr Implement Company. The thief or thieves entered the building by prying open a rear door, according to
Sheriff Elbert STRANGE, who investigated the robbery.
Bill WARIN, senior tackle on the Mount Ayr Raiders undefeated
football team, has been named to the Iowa Daily Press Association's all-state football teams for 1961. WARIN, leader
of Mount Ayr's second best defensive team on record, was
selected on the IDPA's fourth team. WARIN is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Emmet R. WARIN of Mount Ayr. Among those who
received honorable mention was Gary KEPLINGER, Raiders back, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold KEPLINGER of Kellerton.
