This week's paper shows a photo of an ordinary hen's egg, balanced on its small end, taken by Aubrey KIRKPATRICK at
his farm home two miles north of Mount Ayr. He balanced the egg at 5:37 p.m. Monday, time of the vernal equinox and it
remained in balance until at least 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, when the photo was taken. Mrs. KIRKPATRICK said she carried on her
household duties pertty much the same as usual without disturbing the egg in balance.
Verd R. BAILEY, an attorney practicing in Mount Ayr, has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for
Ringgold county attorney.
A check for $300 was presented by the Mount Ayr Lions club to the Iowa Lions Sight Conservation Foundation at its
regular monthly meeting. Among the programs of the Foundation is the leader dog program for the blind.
Several Mount Ayr Community elementary second graders received prizes for winning an Ag Day coloring contest
sponsored by the Ringgold County CowBelles. Winners were: Emily McALEXANDER, Joel MEKUS, Cory SOUTH, Eric LONG,
Damian SOLIS and Heather LYNCH.
Winners in the MAC high school Art Club's kite flying contest included:
Fifth and Sixth Graders - best decorated kite, Dale FROST, and best flying kite, Doug COLLIER;
Seventh and Eighth Graders - best decorated and best flying kite, Gregg CUMMINGS:
High School - best decorated kite, Jan GLENDENNING, and best flying kite, Bob LORIMOR;
Adult - best decorated kite, Joel McCLURE, and best flying kite, Gene LARSON.
