Seven new faculty members were added to the staff at Mount Ayr Community schools this year. They were Mrs. Bill PRICHARD,
the former Kay RYAN, for Benton sixth grade; Mrs. Frank HORNE, for Benton sixth grade; Leonard CRAWFORD, elementary
principal; Harry SCOTT, elementary physical education; Barton FRENCH, freshmen general science; Mrs. Jean YEAROUS,
business education subjects and V. R. GERINGER, advanced high school science and math.
The Shannon City telephone system was converted to dial operation this past week. Approximately 150 telephones are served
by the Shannon City exchange.
The warehouse license of the Maloy Grain Storage, operated by Alva J. PARKER and located in Maloy was suspended for an
alleged shortage of 4,249 bushels of corn. A hearing was scheduled for September 7 in Des Moines to determine if PARKER'S
license was to be revoked. This was the second state-licensed warehouse in Ringgold county to have its license suspended
in the last two months. The Ellston Elevator, operated by J. W. ROBIE, had its license revoked permanently on July 19 at
a commission hearing after several inspections during June showed a shortage of 6,174 bushels of corn, all of it
government owned.
Gay LOUDON of Diagonal and Carl SCHAEFER of Ellston were married at the United Presbyterian Church in Tingley on August 1.
They will make their home in Waunakee, WI.
Marie HALL of Lamoni and George WILEY of Colony, KS were married on August 15 at the Methodist Church in Bethany, MO. They
will make their home in Colony.
Karen Kay AKERS and Michael Lee McDOWELL, both of Kellerton, were married June 24 at the Methodist Church in Kellerton.
They will make their home in Cedar Falls.
4-H exhibitors were in the money at the Iowa State Fair this year. Monte AKERS exhibited the reserve champion Duroc market
pig, received a first and second on Duroc gilts, placed third with his Duroc purebred pen and pen of three market pigs and
had two blue ribbon market individuals. Alan CAMPBELL had two blue ribbon market individuals and Gene STANLEY had one.
CAMPBELL placed fourth with his market litter and sixth with a pen of three market pigs. STANLEY received third on a
pen of three market pigs, third and fourth on purebred gilts and third on a purebred pen. The three 4-Hers combined to
win a purple ribbon for swine herdsmanship.
Craig ELLIOTT received five blue ribbons on market lambs and a red
ribbon and two white ribbons on purebred Hampshire sheep.
Jack GOODALE placed sixth with his steer which was grand
champion at the Ringgold County Fair. Craig LYNCH received a fifth placing on a Shorthorn steer and David LYNCH placed
12th on another Shorthorn. Teena LYNCH and Vicki WACKERNAGLE
won honorable mention with their steers. Judy BRAMMER placed fifth and Jack GOODALE sixth in the summer yearling purebred
heifer.
4-Hers won 13 ribbons in the home economics division of the state fair this year. Blue ribbons were received by Connie MAIN,
who received two, Mary Sue BASTOW and Susan HENDERSON. Red ribbons were awarded to Joan RYCHNOVSKY, Gay NICHOLS, Sally
BRECKENRIDGE, Sharon LESAN, Teena LYNCH, Diane SALTZMAN, Mary Ann HERREN and Rosetta HAILEY. Myrna JARRED received a
white ribbon.
