Virgil HOWIE was elected president of the Mount Ayr Community school board in a reorganizational meeting and the board
gave the go ahead on applying for a talented and gifted program at the special board meeting Monday night.
The Mount Ayr FFA chapter is working again this year on the completion of the Poe Hollow nature trail. The major project
to be completed this fall is a suspenion bridge approximately 60 feet in length over a creek already in existence.
With the completion of this bridge the nature trail will again be open.
Homecoming queen candidates are Beth FLETCHALL, Joan WALTERS, Karen BARBER, Melinda SMALL and Michelle LLEWELLYN. King
candidates are Pat McGRATH, Doug GREENE, Joe FELL, Kelly JAMES and Kelly WOOLLUMS.
Hawkeye Bank & Trust at its September 15 meeting elected Jack M. ELLIOTT chairman of the board of directors of the
Mount Ayr bank. ELLIOTT was first elected to the board of directors in June 1970. He went to work for the bank as
an assistant vice-president in January 1972. He retired from the bank in February 1983 as executive vice-president.
He and his wife, Mildred, are owners of ELLIOT Farms, Inc., which is managed by their son, Craig. They are also
owners and operators of ELLIOTT Service Center located on Highway 2 west of Mount Ayr.
