Fire rendered useless a two-story, wood, six-room home
near downtown Tingley from a blaze which was thought to have started in the chimney. The CLYMER family -- Arvid "Bo" and Judy
CLYMER and their son, Robert, and daughter, Teresa "Terri" -- were at home at the time of the fire which called Tingley firemen
to the scene about 11:05 p.m. Monday night, Oct. 19.
The young brunette on the front page of the Sunday, Oct. 11, Des Moines Sunday Register's "LifeStyle" section, in the
center spot, is the granddaughter of Ruth EGLY of Mount Ayr and the late Bill EGLY. Lizette WIEGAND, 18, daughter of Nida
EGLY CUNNINGHAM, is a model, who attends Des Moines Area Community College, where she is majoring in fashion and design.
She also teaches a fashion course twice a week, in cooperation with DMACC instructor John CASABLANCA.
Nancy SACKETT of Mount
Ayr has earned the standard certificate offered by the Iowa Music Teacher's Association in recognition of her excellence in
teaching piano.
Steve LOOMIS is the new assistant manager at the Mount Ayr Hy-Vee. He is a 12-year Hy-Vee veteran, coming
from Humboldt.
Eric MOE won two cross country meets this week and Laurel MOE placed third behind two Lenox runners three
times in a busy week of action highlighted by the first Mount Ayr Community invitational meet. Eric MOE took first in the
Mount Ayr Community meet and the Central Decatur met this week while Laurel MOE was third in meets in Mount Ayr, Chariton
and Central Decatur.
A thrilling sectional final battle with Lenox-Clearfield for sectional runner-up and a first round loss
to Corning in the regional tournament brought the 1987 volleyball campaign to a close this week for the Mount Ayr Community
Raiderettes.
Two Raiders rank high in football statistics. Randy WEEHLER moved up to second in southwest
Iowa in the Omaha World-Herald's statistics of football players. WEEHLER had 839 yards in 117 carries going into the
Clarke game to bring about the second ranking. In total offense he ranked eighth in southwest Iowa with his 830 years.
WEEHLER also ranked 38th in tackles. Scott WALTERS made the list at number eight for his punting, kicking 675 yards in
24 tries
