Roy SICKELS was appointed to fill the park board vacancy created by the resignation of Dale HERRINGTON. The term
will expire in 1983.
Julie YEAROUS was named valedictorian and Amy FRENCH was named salutatorian as awards and scholarships were
announced at the senior awards day at the MACHS gym May 16.
Charles Raleigh BURSON of Mount Ayr was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail by Magistrate J. N. CHICKEN after he
was convicted of leaving the scene of an accident north of Mount Ayr Friday, May 16. According to the Ringgold
county sheriff's office, BURSON was the driver of a 1950 Ford pickup which was involved in a collision with a 1972
Chevrolet driven by Sarah Jane BRINER of Mount Ayr and owned by Sue ADAMS of Mount Ayr. The accident occurred a
half mile north of Mount Ayr on a gravel road.
Grand Valley Community school vocational agriculture students and instructor Richard SCHWALBE may be featured on a
television program Tuesday, May 27. The program on integrated pest management will be aired on WOI-TV, channel 5,
at 6:30 p.m. Grand Valley students will be telling of their work in scounting for alfalfa weevils
that they took part in last spring.
Neil CHICKEN was elected as president of the Mount Ayr Manor board of directors at a May 15 meeting held in the CHICKEN
home. Two resignations, F. E. McNEILEY as president and Richard BARNES as vice-president, necessiated the selection
of those to fill unexpired terms. The new vice-president is Harold FOLTZ.
