At the regular school election held Monday, G. E. Simpson was re-elected as a director and Frank Pine was elected a director to succeed M. F. Byerly.
Glen Overholser has accepted a position as clerk with the Simpson and Johnson hardware firm. Allen Zantz has taken Glen's place as janitor of the schoolhouse.
Carl Tennant, of Rice township, left Thursday morning for Kansas City, where he expected to enter an electrical school.
Orpha Warner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Warner, of this city, has joined the Red Cross and is on her way to Europe.
At a recent meeting of the Mount Ayr school board, Bert Teale was re-elected as a member of the board of directors and County Auditor E. E. Cornwall was elected treasurer.
Twenty gallons of booze, all of it whiskey, of various grades except one case of beer - the accumulation of various seizures made by the sheriff and county attorney recently - were destroyed on order of the court Monday. The liquor was poured into the sewer at the courthouse.
Ira A. Merritt, who has been appointed distributor of Studebaker automobiles for Mount Ayr, has opened headquarters in the storeroom formerly occupied by John Wall & Son on the west side of the square. He expects to give his time exclusively to the automobile business and will establish a service station.
DIAGONAL - Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Palmer will move about the first of May to Greene, where Mr. Palmer has a position as cashier in a bank.
KELLERTON - Winners of the declamatory contest held Wednesday evening were: Cecil Lutz, first in humorous; George Mitchell, first in oratory; and Halycon Beggs, first in dramatics and first over all. They will represent the Kellerton high school in the county contest to be held in Mount Ayr.
