A mother and son, Margaret and Bob CAMPBELL of Mount Ayr, were privileged to be part of a tour group going to the
Holy Land in a trip from Nov. 13-24, 1995. The tour group of 52 was from two Phoenix, AZ area Christian Churches and
included a former Ringgold countian, Ione BAAL, a good friend of Margaret's. The CAMPBELLS joined them at the Chicago
airport. One of the memorable experiences for the CAMPBELLS was being re-baptized in the Jordan River, where Jesus
was baptized.
Don and Edna SMALL have reopened Small Corral on the northeast corner of the square in Mount Ayr.
It is an official epidemic. When there is more than 10 percent of the school enrollment absent because of illness,
the Iowa Department of Public Health calls it an epidemic. Mount Ayr Community school nurse, Carolyn BJUSTROM, reports
that the school she serves has over 25 percent absent as of early this week. The Mount Ayr Community elementary school
has 380 students. On Monday, Dec. 18, there were 94 out because of illness, whereas on an ordinary day there might be
five to 10 gone, BJUSTROM says. On Tuesday, Dec. 19, there were 85 out by 11 a.m. The Mount Ayr Community junior-senior
high school has an enrollment of 400 and on Monday had 24 out with illness and on Tuesday, 41.
The reappointment of Randy BISHOP of rural Mount Ayr to a five-year term on the Ringgold County Conservation Board
was announced by the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors Monday morning, Dec. 18.
A Ringgold county student received his first varsity football letter at Central College in Pella following the
fall season. Bryan SCHAFER of Mount Ayr, a five foot 11-inch, 215 pound senior nosegard, was awarded the letter this
season.
One Mount Ayr womens bowling team finished in the money in a Sky Lane Ladies Tournament held recently in Omaha, NE.
Bowling on the team were Brenda WILKEY, Deb LARSON, Lori MARSHALL, Deb AYRES and Suzi HARTMAN.
