Leroy Charles RAMSBOTTOM, 19 years of age, was instantly killed Saturday morning about 9:45 a.m. in a
head-on collision on the High and Dry Road west and north of Diagonal. Emmett Charles MURRAY, 28 years of age and English
instructor in the Diagonal Community school, driver of the other car, a 1959 Ford station wagon, was seriously injured.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth RAMSBOTTOM, who reside four miles north of Diagonal, Charles graduated from the Diagonal
high school and until recently had been on six months' active duty as an army reservist. Since his return, he had assisted
with the work on his father's farm and had been employed part time in a Diagonal service station. He is survived by his
parents and two sisters, Dixie, a college student, and Rhonda Sue, of the home.
Dick BOLTON of Mount Ayr has been appointed
local agent for the MFA Mutual Insurance Company of Columbia MO. He will also represent the Countryside Casualty Co.
Mrs. Lloyd GLENDENNING assumed the duties of Stenographer No. 1 in the local social welfare office on December 1. The position
was made vacant by the resignation December 15 of Mrs. Larry SACKETT, an employee of the office for the past months, who has
joined her husband in Olathe, KS where he is stationed with the Marine Corps.
The Raiderettes varsity pulled one out of the fore by outlasting the host East Union girls, 51 to 50, in a thrilling overtime
game Saturday night in Afton.
