At long last, Ringgold County got wet. A very welcome 4.61 inches of ran came to Mount Ayr in three separate showers within a week. The first rain came last Tuesday, dumping 2.31 inches on Mount Ayr in a two hour span.

County residents woke up to steady, gentle rain Saturday morning. Mount Ayr recieved 1.04 inches of rain late Friday through Saturday afternoon.

The final ran came late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, leaving 1.26 inches behind.

Four nights of entertainment have been planned, including the queen crowning and a concert by country-western duo Denny and Donna, a tractor pull, a demolition derby and a horse pull.

Ringgold County Farm Bureau has reached its 1989 membership gain goal of 725 members, according to Warren ANGUS of Mount Ayr, member campaign manager. The county reached its first goal (manager's trip goal) of 700 members before March 1 and needed to reach gain goal before Aug. 31 to receive the 1989 membership award, ANGUS said.

Diagonal has a new business, which celebrated its ribbon cutting last week. Pandora's Box, which sells woodworking and crafts, is open to the public.

Sixty-seven area girls attended the Mount Ayr Community basketball camp held here last week. The camp was open to girls going into grades six through nine, according to camp director and Mount Ayr Community coach, Doug McKern.

Several Ringgold and adjoining area exhibitors emerged as winners in the Lenox Sheep Show the morning of Saturday, July 8, and the Calf Show, Saturday afternoon, at the Lenox sale barn.
