Paul HIXSON of Glenwood was employed this week by the board of supervisors as county engineer of Ringgold
county. He will assume his duties the second of January. The services of Mr. HIXSON were engaged following an
interview last week with supervisors Ernest BASTOW, Maurice HANSON and Dick BARNES. The annual salary of Mr.
HIXSON was set at $9,000.
Two cars were damaged but the three occupants escaped injury in an accident which happened Friday at 7 p.m. As
Olin HOFFMAN of Mount Ayr, who was traveling west, made a right turn off Highway 2 at South Lincoln Street, his
car was struck in the rear by one also headed west and driven by Lyle POWELL, Jr., 17 years of age, of this
city. Mrs. HOFFMAN was an occupant of the car driven by her husband. Damages to Mr. HOFFMAN'S car, a 1955
Chevrolet, were estimated at $300, while the 1957 Ford driven by POWELL was totally wrecked, according to
Sheriff Elbert Strange.
Cecil ADKISSON, 43-year-old farmer of the Beaconsfield vicinity, escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon of
last week when his truck went through a bridge three miles north and east of Ellston and landed in Sand Creek.
Mr. ADKISSON was brought to the Ringgold County Hospital where he remained a patient until Saturday while being
treated for shock, exposure and finger cuts. According to Sheriff Elbert STRANGE, who investigated the
accident, the truck was a total wreck.
A
600-pound cow, belonging to Charles WEIGEL, was killed Sunday evening about 6:15 p.m. when struck by a car
driven by David A. JENNINGS, 16-year-old Ellston youth.
Members of the Mount Ayr Community high school
Raiders basketball team have accepted an invitationto participate in a clinic, sponsored by the Iowa High
School Athletic Association, to be held Saturday, Dec. 29, in the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines.
Coach Dale HERRINGTON and assistant coach Jack WILKINSON will accompany the following Raiders to Des Moines
