Seven new members were initiated into the Parnassum Chapter of the National Honor Society at Mount Ayr Community
high school Monday night. New members are Stephanie BAINUM, Jill DENNEY, Sarah GALLOWAY, T. J. GROVES, Kari STILL,
Tami TRULLINGER and Amy WALKUP.
Bob SICKELS of Mount Ayr has continued the tradition of several other firemen in recent years of giving longtime service
to the Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department. Approximately 25-30 fellow volunteers and invited guests shared in honoring
SICKELS at a dinner March 28 for his 30 years of service to the Mount Ayr Department. As SICKELS is retiring as an
active firemen, he was presented with a plaque in rememberance of his participation, including giving leadership as
fire chief.
Tracy STEWART, a Mount Ayr Community high school junior, will be in the Miss Iowa-USA pageant to he held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday,
April 29, at the Opera House in What Cheer. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Judy STEWART of Mount Ayr and Darrell
STEWART of Rudd and the granddaughter of Ralph and Pauline BRAMMER of Delphos. STEWART is employed at the Mount Ayr
Hy-Vee store. her sponsors are Brammer Farm Corporation and Hy-Vee. She will be competing in the evening gown and
swimsuit competition and will be part of a personal interview.
A three-year-old boy, Tyler WININGER, son of John and Sherry WININGER and grandson of John WININGER and Lois WININGER of
Des Moines and Ivan and Shirley STEPHENS of Clearfield, appeared on his to a normal and happy life after a 1992 operation in which
he received part of his mother's liver. But on April 3 the spirited Kansas City, MO youngster suddenly became ill and died within
hours from septic shock caused by a massive infection.
