Sixteen young men and women, who compose the upper 20 percent of the 1961 senior class of the Mount Ayr Community high
school, will be honored at a scholarship banquet. Honored guests will be Mary BLACK, Louise BURCHETT, Joe DENHART, Carolyn
DRAKE, Gay Lou FERGUSON, Ed HOFFMAN, Judy McGAHUEY, John PETERSON, Carolyn PRITCHARD, Patty RICE, Evelyn RYCHNOVSKY, H. Don
SMITH, Dick STEPHENS, Joann STRINGHAM, Betty WALLACE and Richard WAUGH.
Don SMITH, a junior in the Mount Ayr community high school, has been selected to attend Hawkeye Boys State during the
week of June 4 at Camp Dodge near Des Moines. Don is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted SMITH of Delphos and his sponsor is
Ringgold Post No. 172, American Legion. Alternates are Joe BOWEN, son of Mr. and Mrs. James BOWEN of Benton and Danny CARR,
son of Mr.and Mrs. Maurice CARR of Mount Ayr, both of whom are juniors in the Mount Ayr school.
Dirt work started last Thursday was completed
yesterday in preparation for the erection of a new building for an eight-lane bowling alley in Mount Ayr. The expansion
program is announced by Albert BAGLEY and Ted PERLENFEIN, owners of the Lucky Lanes Bowling Alleys in the I.O.O.F.
building.
Herbie BASTOW, eighth grader in the Mount Ayr Community school and Ringgold county spelling champion, copped second place
honors in the district spelling contest held Wednesday of last week at Radio Station KSIB in Creston. The contest was won
by a Creston boy who spelled correctly the word, "derogatory," which Herbie had missed. Ringgold county’s other entry was
Nancy DUFTY, also an eighth grade student in the Mount Ayr schools.
The Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company is under
new management pursuant to a recent ruling from the Supreme Court of Iowa. Charles MEACHAM is the new manager, with Perry D.
WOODWARD as executive vice president. Miss Cora ROBINSON retired as manager and treasurer of the Ringgold County
Mutual Telephone Company after serving faithfully for many years and Mrs. Lloyd GLENDENNING tendered her resignation as
bookkeeper.

April 13, a son to Mr. and Mrs. William TRINDLE, Jr., Orient
April 15, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Paul GRAY, Blockton
April 15, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth CLYMER, Mount Ayr
April 18, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Robert CORDELL, Maloy
