The Mahan Granite Company of this city was recently purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Melvis EIGHMY of Grant City, MO. Mr.
EIGHMY has been identified with the Grant City Granite Works and comes to Mount Ayr with years of experience and a
background of being a third generation EIGHMY in the monument business. The firm will continue to operate under
the name of Mahan Granite Co. Mrs. EIGHMY is the former Mildred COMBS. The EIGHMY family includes three sons --
Michael, a student at the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO, Markham, high school freshman,
and nine-year-old Malcom.
STUDENT AYR -- Charles BLACK, a mathematics teacher in the Mount Ayr Community high school, has been
selected as the new Hi-Y leader. Mr. BLACK was one of the key figures in starting the Hi-Y organization during his
senior year at Mount Ayr Community high school. ~ ~ ~ ~Thirteen returning lettermen
have reported for wrestling under the direction of head coach Doyle THOMAS. The Raiders are counting heavily on
such stars as Duane DILLENBURG, Larry RINEHART, Roger TRULLINGER and Jerry KNIGHT.
