Ten candidates will vie for the title of Delphos Centennial Queen as part of the activities of the Delphos Centennial Saturday, June 28. Entrants for the queen contest include Karen ANDREWS, Kelly Jean BARKER, Carme BRABY, Sandy CARSON, Dawnette DREDGE, Kelly HOWIE, Jule JACKSON, Nancy SAVILLE, Lisa STEPHENS and Mary Ann WEEDA.

Two men were injured when struck by lightning near a Redding residence Thursday, June 12. Taken by ambulance to the Ringgold County Hospital was Rodney BURTON of Gentry, MO, who was burned by the jolt and was an overnight patient at the hospital for observation. Also injured was Bill BOOSTER, who was less severely burned. The accident happened during a thunderstorm Thursday as the two men stood outside the James ROACH residence in Redding.

Concrete blocks fell from the wall of the old band building at Mount Ayr Community high school as the building was torn down as part of the site work going on around the new elementary building. By Tuesday, the building which had served as a band building for a number of years, was completely demolished. Richard KNAPP had the contract for the demolition.

Three accidents causing a total of $2,500 damage and the theft of a John Deere tractor-mower were among items reported by the Ringgold County Sheriff's office this week. One of the accidents involved a cow belonging to Kenny LAMBERT of Grant City, MO that was hit by two cars in an accident June 16 two miles south of Redding on Highway 169 at 11:45 p.m. The theft of a John Deere tractor-mower owned by the town of Mount Ayr was reported during the night of June 11. The south door padlock was pried off the utility shed at Rose Hill cemetery to steal the tractor, according to the theft report.

Rev. Lewis HUNTER has been assigned again to the pastorate at the Mount Ayr Free Methodist Church.

Karen McFALL will be part of a Harlan high school band that will be playing at the Austria Music Festival the last of this month. The band will play three concerts. Miss McFALL and her mother, Vicki McFALL, will be traveling with 93 other band members and parents who leave June 25 and return July 3. They fly from Des Moines to Dallas, TX, to Frankfurt, Germany and thenwill travel by bus to Austria. Karen's opportunity to be part of this group came when the Harlan band was short several musicians. They sent out a call for ones to join them and Karen applied and was accepted. She plays baritone and has been a member of the Mount Ayr Community high school concert and jazz band.
